I did see some markings on the top of his skull, kind of like scratches.

So if I get you right...they kind of know who this person was, but don't know his real name? Nice you had a positive experience with the investigator.
Yeah...he gave this name to people but they can’t verify it

I found this about the midwest accent. The Midwest, as defined by the federal government, comprises the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. midwest states of usa - Google Search

I wonder was "dakota" a self proclaimed name or did people call him like that. Sorry our posts crossed...so he introduced himself with the name of Dakota.

Say he is from North or South Dakota (Indian land) these states are the worse in organizing there missing and unidentified persons until this day.

I wonder why he wanted to travel to NC and how it fits in his background.

This is a picture of the place he was found. Kenneth Salnang

I'm totally not sure but the surname Salnang doesn't feel Native American to me...but I could be wrong. Also in this file "Isotope testing indicates he was likely native to Florida".....puzzling....

This was said in the papers in 1981. 9 Feb 1981, 71 - The Tampa Tribune at Newspapers.com

Attempts to identify the man have eliminated six of eight possibilities among the missing persons reported to the city police department, Officer Robert Haygood said after an anthropologist examined the body at the medical examiner's office in Largo Saturday. "We have two other possibilities that are not affirmative yet but they fit the general description almost exactly," said Haygood. Both missing persons under consideration are from Pasco County, Haygood said.

It's safe to say the comparison with the MP mentioned didn't brought an identification. I wonder if there are any rule-outs listed in the Namus file.
