The canal where the man was found is on the north side of State Road 84, just east of Hiatus Road near SW 110th Avenue.

The victim was in his 20s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighed 135 pounds and had extensive gold fillings in his teeth. He had been dead about three days.

Sheriff's spokesman Jim Leljedal said bodies of Dade County murder victims frequently have surfaced in the western reaches of the New River Canal where it runs parallel to State Road 84 in Plantation and Davie.

"We believe it is entirely possible that this is a Dade County resident and that the crime was committed in Dade County," Leljedal said. "And as has happened several times in the past, the criminals may have driven up and dumped his body. Frequently they go up U.S. 27 because it's a remote section."

"Police seek identity of victim," Miami Herald, 4 April 1986, 2BR.

"If we don't identify him quick, somebody out there's going to get away with murder," sheriff's spokesman Jim Leljedal said.

Detectives are treating the case as a homicide. The man had suffered several wounds, but detectives would not describe them. Leljedal said detectives think the man may have lived in Dade County or been murdered there, since Dade murder victims frequently have surfaced in the North New River Canal.

Unidentified since 1986. That’s so sad… I’m thinking not a local then?
