44 years after young mother's murder, Davie police turn to new DNA testing
Detectives hope modern forensic technology will finally identify who kidnapped and killed 24‑year‑old Delores Bailey in 1982.
Delores Bailey was a young mom from Pennsylvania who moved to Hollywood in the early 1980s. At 24, while working the overnight shift at a 7‑Eleven on North Federal Highway, she vanished.
"She never came home. She had a husband and a child at home. They reported her as missing," Davie Police Officer Julia Ross said.
That was January 1982. A year later, a landscaper found her remains near Griffin Road and the Turnpike in Davie. She had been shot multiple times in the head.''
After 44 years, Davie Police are taking a fresh look at the cold case of Delores Bailey—a young mother kidnapped and murdered in 1982 while working an overnight shift at a Hollywood, Florida 7-11. Delores' remains were found a year later, but her killer was never caught. Now, with the help of new DNA technology and samples from Delores’ family, detectives hope to crack the case and bring long-awaited answers to her loved ones.
