There is currently a large law enforcement presence near Palm Harbor Parkway/Matanzas Woods Parkway as FCSO searches a body of water in the area. Please avoid the area at this time.

Updates to follow as they are available

Don't know if this is related to EB yet.

Erica Bergeron, 49, a long-time resident of Palm Coast, had recently moved into her home on Lindsay Drive. On Sunday morning, her mother called the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office to report that she hadn’t heard from her in three days, and that Bergeron had some health issues.

Deputies and the fire department forced entry into the house, finding no one there, no car in the driveway, and hearing from a friend of Bergeron’s who also spoke of not hearing from her for days. The last sighting of her was on April 20 at Palm Coast Lanes, the bowling alley at 11 N Old Kings Road.

(..)

Authorities checked all area hospitals and numerous other locations, including parks, churches and hotels and motels, clubs, shopping centers and other locations, some in St. Johns and Volusia counties, with negative results. Flagler County Fire Flight, the emergency helicopter, circled the F-Section, looking for the gray vehicle.

Authorities also checked license plate readers, which last picked out the Toyota on Matanzas Woods Parkway. It isn’t clear whether the rental agency was able to provide a geolocation for where the car was last located.

But it was that, or similar information, that led the Sheriff’s Office’s dive team to a submerged car in a pond at Matanzas Woods Parkway and Palm Harbor Parkway today, and to a sheriff’s advisory that a heavy law enforcement presence was in that area.

“The rental car was tracked to the area, so that’s why we’re searching this pond,” a sheriff’s spokesperson said around 1:20 p.m., as a dive team was getting ready to go into the water. The vehicle was last tracked there on Friday. It was fully submerged. The Florida Highway Patrol’s traffic homicide investigators were also contacted.

A Flagler County sheriff's dive team searched a pond Monday for a Palm Coast woman, last seen early Thursday morning as she left a bowling alley.

They did uncover a car, and investigators told WESH 2 they found a body inside.

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office has not confirmed the identity of the person found yet, but they said the vehicle they found is the same car that the missing woman was believed to be driving.

So sad.

FHP reported "for reasons unknown" the car veered off the roadway. It then struck a tree and went into a nearby retention pond. It was recovered by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team and was occupied by a white female driver who was pronounced dead at the scene.

RIP Erica. There's a video with this report that has more info, including showing the tire marks across the sidewalk leading down to the pond. I can understand why they noticed those, and am so glad that they followed up on them:

"Deputies said a crew noticed Friday morning that a tree was knocked down near a pond on Creek Course Drive near Palm Harbor Parkway in Palm Coast, but at that point, Bergeron hadn’t been reported missing.

Investigators noticed tire tracks heading into the pond and began their search Monday.

“There are tire tracks leading from the roadway going over where the tree once stood and leading into the pond that suggest a vehicle may have possibly traversed the sidewalk, struck a tree and went into the pond,” said Chief David Williams with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office

He said dive teams focused on the middle of the pond, near the fountain, but the water in that area is 15 to 25 feet deep. They said the water is also murky so divers couldn’t see very far in front of them."

Erica Bergeron, 49, was believed to be traveling in, although a positive identification has not been made, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office stated.
Erica Bergeron was last seen April 20 at Palm Coast Lanes.

"A vehicle has been located and removed from the pond with one deceased occupant inside. While positive ID on the occupant has not been made, the vehicle is the same vehicle that missing person Erica Bergeron was believed to be traveling in when she was reported missing," reported the sheriff's office in a Facebook post.

Bergeron was last seen on Thursday at Palm Coast Lanes, 11 N. Old Kings Road, according to the sheriff's office. She was in a gray 2021 Toyota Camry, license plate JBGR52, which is a rental vehicle that Bergeron may have been driving.

Just after 6 p.m. Monday, the Florida Highway Patrol reported the death of a 49-year-old Jacksonville woman, found in a pond, inside a gray Toyota four-door passenger vehicle. The vehicle was traveling northwest on Palm Harbor Parkway southeast of Cris Lane. The Florida Highway Patrol, as is routine in their releases, did not identify the driver.

Since she was in the water only a few days, hopefully the tox tests, especially for alcohol, will yield better results than was possible with Kiely Rodni's case.
