Fisherman was fishing and found a blue canvas backpack floating in the L-20 Canal. The backpack contained skeletal remains approx. 7 months to 8 months in utero. The backpack also contained a bed sheet, gum wrapper, towel, baby wipes and a small pair of panties, which were oversized for the remains. After examination by the University of Florida CA Pound Lab. the remains were determined to be that of a full-term neonate.

Estimated Age Group: Infant
Estimated Year of Death-- ???
Estimated PMI-- ???
Height: 4' 2" (must be a mistake?)
Weight: 6 lbs

Accessories
Backpack brand "Trailmaker Classic"
Near the Body

Clothing
Size 4T (i.e. toddler) panties with Pony characters on them, bed sheet and White towel.

This listing strikes me as really odd, why would their be a toddler's undies in the bag with the abandoned newborn? Presume the mother already had a slightly older daughter when she abandoned this one? Maybe this is an abusive family thing?

What the hell? I guess he was excluded as the child's father or something?

Or just a mistake, maybe?
The MP's page is down. Impossible to check if there is a connection between the MP and the UP.

Really baffling that he and only he is the rule-out for a newborn's remains, most likely just a mistake?

''Traditional DNA testing established that the child's biological sex was female. Unfortunately, no other characteristics or clues could be derived from the remains. With few leads to go on, the identity of the child could not be determined. Details of the case were entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) as #UP13173.

In 2024, the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office and the District 19 Medical Examiner’s Office teamed with Othram to leverage advanced DNA testing and genetic genealogy to develop investigative leads to assist in identifying the infant. Anyone with information that could aid in this investigation is encouraged to contact the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office at 772-462-3353 and reference case number 14-12041.

Law enforcement has contributed a portion of the cost associated with this case. A DNASolves crowdfund has been created to raise funds for the remaining casework costs. Anyone can contribute here. We are grateful for your support.''
