32-year-old Heather Cunniff and her infant daughter, 3-month-old Destiny, were last seen in the 200 block of Ave. A NE on Nov. 6. Police said friends haven't seen her or her baby since then.

LE replies to comments:

Winter Haven Police Department Detectives still need to physically see both Heather and the baby to ensure they are both safe. Speaking on the phone doesn't verify their safety.

Winter Haven Police Department You are correct. Someone saying she was Heather spoke to a detective, however we need to lay eyes on both Heather and the baby.

Pure speculation. I am wondering if she is maybe she is hiding from the baby's father or an abusive ex. Another is if had/has drug issues and is afraid the baby will get taken away. Polk county, like many places, has meth problems. She has to be getting money or be supported somehow. If she is on any social services they can easily track where the money is going and look at videos to see if it is her.

Hey! Im from Polk county and my county does resemble that remark. Regardless if she is hiding, there are ways to contact LE and verify..

** Detectives have yet to have direct contact with Heather or Baby Destiny **
There are a few people stating they have spoken to Heather, however a phone call does not ensure that she or Baby Destiny are safe. We must make face-to-face contact to know that they are both safe. We continue to ask the public to let us know of their whereabouts. Thank you everyone.

I sincerely hope she is safe but statistics are not good IMO for mothers with babies.....

I'm glad police are being adamant about seeing her & the baby in person & that a phone call from someone claiming to be Heather, even if it really IS Heather, is NOT good enough.

I don't have a good feeling about that baby being safe either way. If Heather isn't wanting to meet with detectives, I'm worried for baby's welfare for sure.
If someone or something is keeping Heather from meeting in person, that's obviously a terrible scenario as well.

Detectives would likely drive to her if a vehicle/gas money is an issue. I have a bad feeling about this.

I suppose Heather never contacted police in person to confirm her safety? I hope she and Destiny are safe. Heather's sister was murdered in 2010. I'd imagine LE would say whether there's any connection between these cases. I saw on a mugshot type website that Heather was arrested for drug offenses. I wonder if the mysterious man reported by witnesses in her sister's case was ever located? I hope "Sport" isn't involved in their disappearance.

Police Seek Leads in 2010 Homicide

Feb. 5, 2012

WINTER HAVEN | For more than 2½ years, Heather Cunniff has kept her sister’s ashes in her bedroom.
She continues to hope her sister’s killer will be brought to justice.
Her sister, Cherie T. Kirkendall, was shot and killed on May 18, 2010, in her apartment at 751 Ave. O S.W. Winter Haven.

From the article it seems both her and her sister were involved in the drug scene. In a small town, everyone knows everyone. Some of the same people would be known to all sisters, even the one not seemingly involved. Perhaps this sister was getting to close to the truth in her quest to solve the 1st death.
