21 year-old Kelly Vazquez was last seen in Plant City, Florida on May 23rd 2021.

Kelly was wearing a black crop-top, black shorts and white tennis shoes. She was carrying a black backpack with silver buttons, and she always has a black hair tie around her wrist. Kelly has maroon / purple hair that is about 6” in length.

Kelly has the tattoo of a rose on her right thigh, and the tattoo of a dreamcatcher on her left thigh. She also has a spider tattoo on her left arm, and a dollar symbol on her finger.

Kelly Vazquez said she was going to a Tampa casino, then disappeared

21-year-old Kelly Vazquez has not seen since May 23.

Vazquez returned home to her grandmother’s house in Valrico that morning around 9 a.m.,saying she’d gone to the Seminole Hard Rock casino in Tampa the night before.

She picked up some clothes, said she’d be back in a few hours, and left again with a man she was dating, her grandmother Maria Vazquez said.

An out-of-state friend video messaged with Kelly Vazquez later that afternoon as she shopped at Walmart with two men. That friend, Madison Repsher, says Vazquez mentioned she might go to the casino again before the call cut off. Vazquez later texted that her service was bad because she was in “the middle of nowhere.”

A day later, Maria Vazquez received a text from her granddaughter’s phone saying she was headed home. But it never happened.

“After that, her phone went dead,” Maria Vazquez said.

Point of intrigue: Vazquez and Petito's disappearances have several striking similarities.

• Vazquez was also last seen with a man she was dating, with her family receiving mysterious messages from her phone.
• Just as law enforcement combed through forests for Petito and later, Sarasota County swamplands for Laundrie, police were still searching for Vazquez in the woods of Keysville last weekend, per the Tampa Bay Times.

Vazquez's mother, Debbie Courville, told the Times she's been commenting on stories about Petito to try and get the same consideration for her daughter.

• "I just don't understand why some cases get that kind of attention and others don’t," she told the Times.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office located the human remains in September 2023.

Human remains discovered in Polk County late last year have been positively identified as Valrico resident Kelly Vazquez, missing since May 21, 2021, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced Saturday night.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office located the remains on Sept. 25, 2023, and notified Vazquez’s family of the positive identification in the past week.

"Through collaborative efforts, we have located the remains of Kelly Vasquez, and we hope that in this discovery, we've given her family a measure of closure amidst their profound grief."
