Died January 3, 1980 by blunt force trauma. The 9-year-old was reported missing on the evening of January 2, 1980. He was last seen playing (hunting) near an old and abandoned church at the intersection of Callaway and Booker Street in Cantonment.

Escambia County Sheriff's Office (FL).

He was found with a 20 foot section of pine tree over the upper portion of his body. His belt and BB gun were found in two different areas about 50 feet from his body.

Couldn't find much about him on a google search, except for this article, giving a litte more info about his disappearance. Also his brother posted some comments under it

The other 3 children may remember something now that they wouldn’t think was/is important at the time. LE can re-interview them, the neighbors, any persons who were in the family’s social circle.

Why would someone want to murder him? A pedophile in the area? Someone in the home abusing him? A family friend that was heavily involved, maybe a little too friendly?

It was just over 44 years ago on the afternoon of January 2, 1981, that 9-year-old Kenneth Deshun Underwood and three companions went bird hunting in the woods near their Cantonment home. Everyone returned home that afternoon except for Underwood.

When Underwood was still not home around 6 p.m., Escambia County Search and Rescue personnel were called. The area where Underwood was last seen alive was canvassed. His body was discovered about 5:45 the next morning –apparently murdered — in an area near Booker Street. His cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma.

Kenny Underwood went missing after a bird hunting trip with his friends in 1981. Search crews found his body hours later hidden beneath a rotting log.
