Sarasota Police Conducting Death Investigation; Asking for Public’s Assistance
Post Date:08/25/2021 2:27 PM
The Sarasota Police Department is conducting a death investigation after a body was found on Lido Beach last night, Tuesday, August 24, 2021.

Sarasota Police officers received a call just after 9 p.m. that a body had washed ashore near the Lido Beach Pavilion, 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive, Sarasota. There were no obvious signs of foul play and foul play is not suspected. The District 12 Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death.

Sarasota Police detectives are requesting help from the public in identifying the woman. She is believed to be in her 50’s or 60’s. The woman was last seen by witnesses on the beach shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday wearing a gray t-shirt that said “Broken Horn Saddlery” and blue shorts. A graphic of the shirt is attached.

Sarasota Police detectives are asking if the public has a loved one who they haven’t heard from or they haven’t been in touch with them recently, to give Sarasota Police Criminal Investigations Division a call at 941-263-6070.

Thanks for the update @PayrollNerd ! So sad...Hope they say what happened to her.

Interesting they mention finding her Tuesday evening, then Tuesday morning. Probably a typo.

Locals know not to swim at dusk as it is the natural feeding time. I wonder if she was visiting. If no personal items were found on the beach, she may have been staying nearby. There’s some rip tides too and maybe she inadvertently was caught in one.

I wondered that, too. Lido beach has always had that swift current, and it's been made worse by the dredging. Add to that, dusk is feeding time for the sharks. Poor lady may she RIP.
