3 Kids Under the Age of 11 Had 'Smiley Faces' Burned Onto Their Skin with a Lighter: Reports

Citing the affidavit, news station WFTS reports that Mize allegedly held the children down and singed them with three separate burn marks: two for the eyes, and below that — a “u” for the mouth.

The kids were 5, 8, and 10. No info was given on relationship between them and Joshua Mize, of St. Petersburg,

A 10-year-old victim left in the care of Mize three to four weeks prior had a burn scar shaped like a smiley face on his left leg.

Appears the three incidents happened at different times. The first 3 - 4 weeks ago.

ETA: One look at his mugshot was more than enough. Dead eyes, imho.

When I was about 10/11 years old we did this to each other with lighters, for stupid kid reasons, we called the burns smileys.

You just hold the lighter button down for a while to make the top hot, then touch the metal part to your skin. I don't want to diminish the crime, but it does reminds me of a silly kids prank, not too painful.

It's making me wonder if this man is underdeveloped/inappropriate rather than evil? If an adult really wanted to hurt a child, this is a strange an ineffective method.
