Bumping this case. Nearly 29 years since this poor woman met her terrible fate and was dumped in a canal inside a box like garbage. Someone got away with murder.

Just an FYI, Lake Placid is about 150 miles north of Miami Lakes.
Correct, but where she was found is at the end of Lake Placid CT and the residential complex that is there is called Lake Placid Condominiums. Honestly, in 1996 I think the condo complex had a different name but the street name was the same.

Yes, sounds about right.
Wow, the Spanish article was way more graphic than the English one as far as the man's description of what he saw in the box. It is mind boggling that box laid there for a month or so...hiding in plain sight. I drove by that area darn near every day back at that time. Sends chills up my spine.

I believe she was found in the canal.

I was also in that area a lot, back then. My company had a factory on the other side of the airport. I miss the good old days of a nice long lunch at Shula's.

Yeah, I usually look for the Spanish articles. They always describe things with a lot of "lujo de detalles".

May I ask what route you usually took? Was it W 84th St? If so, do you think it would’ve been easy for someone to stop and toss the box into the water there without being noticed?

I was up and down all over the place really. Probably would have passed by that area on Ludlam (aka W 12th Ave or NW 67th Ave). That was a usual route if I was going to Hialeah, particularly Big Daddy's or Ranch House which were restaurants I went to fairly often back then. I could imagine that section of NW 138th Street (W. 84th Street in Hialeah) could be pretty desolate in the middle of the night as it was mostly industrial right in that section. Most if not all of those businesses would have been closed and not a ton of traffic. I still feel like the box was put in on the north side of the canal which was industrial but then turns into a residential neighborhood (part of Miami Lakes) with much quieter streets, etc especially in the middle of the night. I came home many nights at 2 or 3 am (my house was in a different yet very similar part of Miami Lakes) and there was no one on the streets. I mean no one, not a soul.
Yes @GatorFL Shula's was great! I loved Beverly Hill's Cafe as well which is gone now 😔.

Don't forget that little grocery store just off Main Street. Great sandwiches and Cuban coffee.
