I have a question that is irrelevant but still has me wondering: The article states that these hoodlums returned to "the scene" 3 times in as many days and beat the victim. The scene is described as being in the woods. Does this mean that the homeless man lived in the woods? Or was he beaten so badly on day 1 that he was unable to leave the scene for medical attention? I just wonder why he didn't leave for help after the first attack. Maybe he was restrained???

The poor man was sleeping (probably lived in the woods, too) in the woods when he was initially atacked. The boys came back two more days to attack Michael Roberts, for a total of two full hours over three days. Michael begged the boys for mercy until he died. He was beaten with sticks, rocks, kicked, and jumped on. He was unable to go for help for himself.

I posted a link at the end of page one that shows a picture of all of the boys and the victim, Michael Roberts. The subject of this thread (Warren) who jumped on and broke Robert's ribs weighed over 300lbs. Roberts, the victim, weighed just over 100lbs.

Hello Dingo,:)
We have and have had them in our facility under 18 years old.Males and females.

Children here are detained in our facility if they commited a crime that is punishable by life imprisonment or death. If it appears that the court is satisfied that incarceration is required for public safety and protection they are held.

We also have juvie duty outside of the facility. That means that we do juvie duty with 2 Officers in a motel room. They are booked in the room and they are either bailed (the person posting bail has to go to the facility to pay process the bail)

One female we had was 14 years old when she and her step-brother murdered her step-mother.She was not 14 when she came to the facility, but she was under 18.

Respectfully,

From March 2012:

http://www.news-journalonline.com/article/20120326/articles/303269981

Back in April 2006, Scamahorn and Jeffrey Spurgeon, then 19 and both from Holly Hill, pointed the blame at each other when they were sentenced to 35 years for the killing of Roberts, 53, in a wooded area behind a car wash on Nova Road.

Two other teens who participated in the drawn-out beatings of the helpless local man with sticks, logs, fists and feet received less-severe sentences. Warren Messner, then 16, cried in court when he received 22 years. Justin Stearns, then 18 and a competitive go-cart racer, was described as staring blankly ahead when he got 28 years for his role.
