Woman killed while wearing only white sheet identified

By Macollvie Jean-Francois | Sun-Sentinel.com 10:45 AM EDT, September 21, 2008 MIRAMAR - Police on Sunday released the identity of a woman struck and killed while walking along the road, wearing only a white sheet.

Dayana Mortimer, 26, was walking northbound along State Road 7 about 5 a.m. Thursday, wrapped in the sheet, police spokesman Lt. Bill Robertson said in a news release Sunday. A black Dodge Ram struck the Opa-locka woman just north of County Line Road, critically injuring her.

Paramedics took Mortimer to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, and police released information about the crash to the public, asking for help identifying her.

Mortimer died at the hospital Friday, Robertson said.

Meanwhile in Miami-Dade, Mortimer's family searched for her and went to Miami Gardens Police for help, according to Robertson. There, they learned of a woman who had been struck by a vehicle in Miramar. Saturday afternoon, Robertson said, the relatives went into Miramar's police station and confirmed her identity.

The driver of the Ram remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, Robertson said. He did not say if any charges were filed
