That's the LE term for when somebody calls them to request they check on somebody to make sure they're okay.

We had to do that a time or two with an elderly relative who wasn't responding to our calls. Turned out she just didn't feel like answering the phone. It was quite embarrassing but the cops said they were glad to do it.
