Hello all. I am new here. I admit I do not know the local procedure here but hoping to get some help.

On November 10th around 9:30-10:00 pm Mannford Police Chief Lucky Miller was murdered (allegedly) by his friend and co worker of 10 years while attending a training conference in Pensacola Florida. All I’ve been able to find out is what’s been reported by news sources on the internet.

I have a personal interest in this case as I knew lucky my entire life. We went to school together and our families were all friends. I attended the funeral yesterday and this whole case is just confusing and shocking. I have heard some things, from a source that lives in Pensacola but I can not vouch for its validity. Just hoping to get a discussion and maybe learn more about this tragic incident. Thank you.

Welcome HP - I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend, Lucky.

Thanks for starting this thread. While I was skimming headlines yesterday I saw an article about Lucky’s murder & meant to go back & read it. Of course I never did so now I will read

From SugarQueen’s link:

“According to the report, guests at the Hilton had complained of loud noises coming from Room 527. One witness, who went down to the front desk to request a room change, heard laughter and yelling for several hours.”

“Another reported hearing a “roaring” noise and then heard a man yelling, “Stop it, Mike,” several times loudly, and then more quietly, before stopping altogether, according to the report.”

“A hotel worker went to check on the situation and knocked on the door several times, but “only heard a grunting noise.” The worker entered the room and found Mr. Nealey sitting on top of Chief Miller, who was lying on the floor, according to report. The worker yelled at Mr. Nealey to get up, and then pulled him off the chief.”

“By the time the police arrived, Chief Miller was dead. His face was beaten and his right eye was completely swollen, but there were no other apparent injuries, according to the police report.”

Thanks everyone for the reply’s and the links. I guess it’s still too early to know the big question..the “why” or “motive”. I can add that I’ve known Lucky for 38 years. I played football with him. Fished together. All the things boys do growing up. And one think I know is he was pretty tough. Scrappy. His level of intoxication would be the ONLY way he would have been killed the way he was. My question is just how intoxicated was Nealey? I did not know him personally but knew if him when he was a cop in Chandler Ok. Something started that fight, and I’m hearing he isn’t talking. But wouldn’t he have to say something in part of his defense? He can’t just say “I don’t know” can he? With him being a detective himself I assume he knows all the tricks.

Welcome to WS HP! I am sorry you are under such awful circumstances. I hope you can find the answers you are looking for. Hopefully some members will come along to help.

Although some information may not come out until a Trial is held. The Trial will be held in Florida where the crime happened unfortunately for those who live in Oklahoma.

There should be more information that will come out in the media soon. Not sure they will announce many details about the murder. The motive if known will be held close to the vest from what I have seen in past crimes.

No he doesn't have to say anything. He can invoke his right to have an attorney present or wait for an attorney. Yes he would know his rights being a Detective.

With what I’ve read so far it seems alcohol played a huge part. My brother was a drinker in his teens. There was “funny” brother when he only had a few. “Sappy old songs and woe is me” brother when he had a little more. When he went beyond that it was “ oh crap, he’s going to be a problem” violent brother. When he got to that point anything could set him off, even if the offense was completely imagined. That’s the reason I have had no contact with him in years. My point being depending on how drunk they were there may not be a real reason.

Oklahoma officer sentenced to life in prison for the murder of police chief in Pensacola hotel

Former Mannford Police Officer Sentenced To Life, Convicted Of Killing His Police Chief

I guess we'll never know the motive or what they were fighting about. Nealy claimed he had no memory of the "incident." His lawyer claimed he was so drunk, he fell off the bed and onto his chief and wasn't physically able to get off him (this despite witnesses claiming there was shouting going on for hours and the maintenance man testifying he found the defendent sitting atop a man on the ground.
