Petty departed from Louisville International Airport on September 14 and arrived in Florida later during the day.She spoke to her relatives once she returned to Florida, but she has never been heard from again. Since her disappearance there hasn't been any activity on her credit cards, bank accounts, driver's license or Social Security number.
Petty's husband said that he believed his wife left of her own accord, but it's uncharacteristic of her to not contact her loved ones. Kentucky authorities are handling the investigation.

Her brother Ron Royce told authorities no one in the family had spoken with Olive since she spoke with her mother at the airport in Florida. Attempts to contact her failed. Finally, a week after no one had heard from Olive, her husband Bobby Petty called Olive’s family in Kentucky. Ron says Bobby told them Olive was missing and offered no further details.
Alarmed that his sister was missing, Ron and the Royce family immediately went to Lee County, Florida. Upon his arrival, the Royce’s reception by Olive’s husband Bobby was less than welcoming. Bobby was annoyed by their presence, and finally told Olive’s family that she had willingly “took off with some guy”. Bobby was not interested in searching for Olive or investigating where she may have ran off to. Ron later stated, “it was evident on his face, his attitude, that he was not concerned and didn’t care.”
Authorities in Lee County have stated that Bobby Petty was completely uncooperative with the investigation of Olive’s disappearance. He also refused a polygraph test. However, police say at this time, Bobby Petty is not a suspect or person of interest.
Olive’s family and authorities believe it would be totally out of character for her to leave her husband of 20 years and not contact her family. She attended her family reunion in Kentucky every year and called her mother routinely at least once a week, prior to her disappearance.
Bobby and Olive were well-regarded in their neighborhood and often frequented the Elk’s Lodge off Bayshore Road. Authorities hope that some who knew Olive will come forward with a missing piece of information, so that they can proceed with the investigation.
Olive Frances Petty is described as a white female, 5′ 1″, 135 lbs., with brown hair and blue eyes. She was 49 years old at the time of her disappearance.
