I’ve been watching the news about this since I’m local. But I didn’t realize he had his little dog with him. If he exited the car at any point, left the dog unattended, I wonder if others would be alerted. Perhaps the dog would bark or climb around the car catching someone’s eye.

There’s plenty of cameras around because that address is next to the Ellenton Outlet shopping. So unless he ends up on a back street in Parrish that’s not as developed, they should see his car. That area is a madhouse this time of year. I hope he didn’t accidentally get on I-75!

He routinely visited the Ola Mae Sims Dog Park in Parrish with his dog, Sassy.

"Those two are inseparable. My mom actually calls Sassy my dad's girlfriend. Those two, you couldn't break them apart. He took her every day to the dog park," said his stepdaughter, Lisa Boveine.

An AirTag on his 2001 silver Lincoln LS last pinged at the intersection of Corbett John Road and SR 62. It’s the last confirmed sighting of the veteran, whose personalized license plate stands for: Lieutenant, Colonel, Sergeant. (LT COL S)

the 87-year-old, who does have Alzheimer’s and needs medication. They said he left home without a cell phone and without credit cards.

Detectives have checked tag readers, used drones, helicopters, side by sides in the search to bring the veteran home. Volunteers have even searched ponds.

Investigators even updated the microchip on Sassy just in case someone finds her, there will be a message that her owner is missing too.

If he got on I-75 he could be anywhere. My aunt had undiagnosed dementia and one Sunday afternoon left our house to go home. She got on the interstate and went south instead of north. She ended up about 200 miles away. I’m not sure to this day who found her and under what circumstances.

“We located skeletal remains consistent with what he (Sargent) was wearing, the clothes matched with what he was wearing,” Sullivan said.

A dog’s skeleton was also found several feet away from the body with a dog collar believed to have belonged to Sargent’s dog.

“Obviously a DNA confirmation needs to be done, but we feel pretty confident that this is going to be Paul Sargent,” Sullivan told ABC7.

These people do such great work. Good to hear he has made his way home to his family.

The remains were found by members of Sunshine State Sonar, a volunteer group that investigates missing persons cases. Team member Mike Sullivan says his group used sonar to survey about 30 ponds on the property before they found the remains in a shallow creek less than a mile from Sargent’s locked car in a remote area of the property.
