  • Jewelry: He wore a gold ring on his pinky finger that had a seal/family crest on it that possibly contained a lion. It had a crisscross style chain and the clasp had his initials, PSM.
  • Identifiers: He wears a full set of upper dentures. A copy of his right index finger and thumb prints are available.
  • Other: He has a thyroid condition that requires daily medication.
Circumstances of Disappearance:
Madison was last seen in Treasure Island, Florida on June 13, 1986. He spent the evening at a friend's home, then drove away in his white 1976 Ford van en route to his residence. He failed to return home and has never been heard from again. His clothes and other belongings, as well as his daughter's elderly blind dog which he was caring for, were left behind at his house. There were no indications of forced entry.

On July 27, his van was located abandoned at Ninth Street and Burlington Avenue north in St. Petersburg, Florida. It had been stripped of interior furnishings and parts.

Madison was retired at the time of his disappearance, lived quietly, and frequented bars in downtown St. Petersburg. It's uncharacteristic of him to leave without warning or to abandon the dog, which he was very attached to. There have been no transactions on his credit cards or bank accounts since he went missing. Foul play is suspected in Madison's case and his whereabouts remain unknown.

Some newspaper articles. This is the first I've heard of this man missing from Pinellas County.
I wonder why he changed his middle and last name after World War 2 when he was in the merchant marines.

The neighborhood where his van was found abandoned and stripped. It is the Mirror Lake area (lake you can see partial is Mirror Lake) Not a bad area now and not a bad area in 1986. There's a famous shuffleboard court near there as well as a historic dance hall. Looking at this map I think those buildings have been there, for example the health dept and retail little strip plaza, since before 1986. I'm curious where his van was parked. Also, there's a lot on the corner empty and I wonder if its been that way or from demolishion. It looks like it could be part of the church property. Nothing matches for this UID found April of 1995 offshore near Miami Beach but kind of ironic both mention a crest ring and gold watch with flexible metal bracelet band.

The name change is curious. Was he in hiding?

Wonder if 12/26/58 was a significant date for Peter Madison/Peter Gruesbeck.

Just found it interesting and wanted to share.

good catch. ring and watch are very simular. Griffin description is like a lion and bird. Peter Madison ring mentions lion. Also watch is same type. Height is off. It's possible. wonder where he'd been during that time. I am also wondering about the name change. After he got out of the merchant marines he changes his middle and last name. My first thought was he's hiding from someone or something.

The link for the John Doe on namus shows a ring that could be a family crest and could be used to create wax stamp or seal IMO.
