Unfortunately, it appears a similar car has been found in a pond. And according to the Palm City Police it is possibly linked to a 2009 missing persons case.

Wow. Maybe the standard operating procedure should now be to fly drones over bodies of water when a person and their vehicle can't be found.

Skeleton Linked to Man Missing For 12 Years Found by Drone (msn.com)

Snips:
The silver 2002 Ford Mustang car was spotted on Wednesday in a retention pond in the Bayside Lakes neighborhood in Palm Bay, in the eastern part of central Florida.

The vehicle was removed from the pond on Thursday by the Underwater Recovery Team of Palm Bay Police. Skeletal remains were found inside.

Palm Bay Police Lieutenant Jeff Spears said the car is associated with a missing person case involving 38-year-old Philippe Desir, a Palm Bay resident who has been missing since February 2009.

Police said the car's passenger and driver's side windows were rolled down and the vehicle found upside down.

<snipped by me>

Your drone suggestion is a really good one. Just making a sad note here as this is not connected to this case, and I found no thread for this man, but there was another sad water ending to a missing person case again today in Palm Bay:

Deputies: Boater bumps into submerged car near boat ramp, body found inside

Bob Satterlee, resident of Palm Bay. Missing since Monday, June 14. Last seen around 3:30 pm in the vicinity of Jupiter Blvd SE.
