Deputies seek public's help in search for missing Brevard kayaker
PORT ST. JOHN, Fla. - The Brevard County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in finding a missing and endangered man.
Deputies said Scott Kemper, 53, was last seen at his home in Port St. John Friday around noon, but is believed to have gone kayaking later and has not been heard from since.
Authorities said Kemper is believed to have used his 16-foot beige Tarpon brand kayak at Haulover Canal in Mims.
Kemper's silver 2006 Toyota Scion has since been located near the canal with the kayak missing from it and all kayak straps inside the car, deputies said.
The Sheriff's Office said crfews searched the area Saturday from both the air and water, but were unsuccessful in finding him.
A friend of Kemper's called News 6 Sunday and said he is worried about Kemper because he is a local musician and missed one of his shows in Brevard since his disappearance. The man said that was very unusual for Kemper, since he never misses a show.
He said Kemper is a great person and friend, adding that the missing man often takes him to the Orlando area for his cancer treatments.
Anyone with information about Kemper's whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 321-633-7162.
