A woman faces animal cruelty charges for failing to care for an assortment of “emaciated dogs in cages without food or water,” cats, and birds at her home in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Feces and cockroaches were scattered throughout the home, even in the bird cages, authorities said. Cops claim in the backyard, they found a dog’s skeleton and 15 large trash bags with animal remains.

Tonya Lynn Grose, 36, allegedly admitted she lacked the money or food to properly take care of the animals.

“Grose said she usually buries the animals that die in the backyard, but she could not bury them by herself, so she put them in garbage bags in the shed,” officers wrote.

Cops said they linked up Wednesday morning with Seminole County Animal Services to meet with Grose at her home. SCAS claimed that she had kept canceling every appointment they had with her.

So she had $10 to mess up her hair but no money to feed the animals? Disgusting.

But her so called "perfect life" is on social media!! Last post was 2021 on the rescue page but current on her personal page.

how do we know if she bonded out?

animal hoarding is such a sad horrible thing. Most hoarders of this type think they are animal lovers and the hoarding of them is a mental illness or sorts. Even as they step over desiccated carcasses - somehow, their brains find a way to justify their continued hoarding because - they "love" animals - the animals "need" them. "only they can know what the critters need - and so forth. It's a sad sad state of mind.

it goes beyond that though - the sheer cruelty of letting them starve to death locked up - its sadistic

Agreed this lady had way too many animals to support. She made some terrible choices and the animals paid the price, but in some ways, I understand her fear. I do hope she gets therapy, and never gets another animal. When hard times come, the animals and children are the first to suffer. Remember that shelters make you pay to surrender your pets, and many aren't even accepting animals, they stay packed with animals. If one can't even afford pet food for their furbabies, how are folks supposed to pay the fees to turn them over to a shelter? And if they are old and need treatment, we know what happens to them.
It's horrible that this happens, but people who fall on hard times need to be able to freely ask for and receive assistance before it gets this bad. Animals age and develop medical problems, just like we do. If people were not afraid of being judged, jailed and losing all their animals, I'd like to believe they would reach out for help during the rough times. Real help is often just not available unless you have plenty of money. With a fat wallet, anything is there for the asking. Before I retired, life was good.
It cost me $181.00 to put my 16 yo kitty down last year, nobody has that just laying around, so something else didn't get paid, that month. I thank God I could swing it, but it took some juggling and corner cutting.
This lady has mental problems, and I hope she gets some therapy, she whet over the top with the hoarding. I also pray the confiscated critters get healthy and find good homes. But it does trouble me that people are so afraid of legal troubles and public ostracism they hide their problems and that just prolongs the suffering. I have searched and searched for assistance with food and medical care assistance, and there is hardly anywhere that will help your animals if you are broke. That is a fact. They will take them away, press charges, and destroy you financially and socially. There has to be a better way. Punishment is not the answer, because it does not work.

I had to return a dog after 2 years to the place I adopted it from. You had to fill out a form online for them to consider your request. Then I had an appointment for an interview with the intake person. I brought our dog, her medical records and told them about all her training and her behaviors. They didn't charge me anything at all.

Someone adopted her. She was a good dog but with my cancer diagnosis, I couldn't care for her anymore. Maybe that is why but I've never heard of any place here charging a fee to surrender a pet.

Our local shelter has a Wednesday giveaway in the parking lot each week. People donate food, toys, beds, crates, treats, etc. Whatever the shelter can't use, they offer to the public at no charge. Anyone can come by and get what they need. The homeless feed their pets this way. There are people who care for the cat colonies and they pick up food too.

Here they usually do charge to surrender pets but have suspended that fee until further notice. Because of all the pets acquired during Covid being dumped. Some people still abandon them which is reprehensible. Humans make poor choices and get pets or 'rescue' them when they can't afford them and this is the result. Punishment is necessary. The animals deserve justice as do the people who actually care about them.
