TAMPA — A Tampa police officer has been arrested on a charge of sexual battery after investigators found he touched a woman inappropriately during a Feb. 1 traffic stop.

Sex assault charges dropped, but Tampa police say they won't rehire officer

TAMPA -- A Tampa police officer and his defense team addressed claims made against him Tuesday afternoon.

According to his defense team, Adam York was unjustly accused of sexual battery during a traffic stop in 2016.

The defense team, led by Richard Escobar and Associates, says the team 'destroyed the government's case' against York on Nov. 9, and the charges were dropped.

His attorney says the accuser’s story changed several times — and blames Tampa police for shoddy detective work.

York says the allegations have ruined his life, and he is asking for his job back.

“This is never going away. This is the rest of my life, and they’ve taken it all," York said. "At no point did anybody seek the truth. At no point did anybody try to do the right thing.”

Tampa police responded to the charges being dropped, including that his status within the department has not changed.
