This is just to strange. I feel sorry for his wife and also for the others who were exposed to this behavior.

Former Judge Donald D. Thompson, a veteran of 23 years on the bench, is on trial on charges he used a penis pump on himself in the courtroom while sitting in judgment of others.

Over the past few days, the jurors have watched a defense attorney and a prosecutor pantomime masturbation. A doctor has lectured on the lengths the defendant was willing to go to enhance his sexual performance.

Thompson’s former court reporter, Lisa Foster, wiped away tears as she described tracing an unfamiliar “sh-sh” in the courtroom to her boss. She testified that between 2001 and 2003 she saw Thompson expose himself at least 15 times.

“I was really shocked and I was kind of scared because it was so bizarre,” Foster said.

She testified that during a trial in 2002, she heard the pump during the emotional testimony of a murdered toddler’s grandfather.

The grandfather “was getting real teary-eyed, and the judge was up there pumping on that pump,” she said. “It was sickening.”

A Creek County jury late Thursday convicted a former judge who was accused of exposing himself by using a sexual device while he presided over court cases.

The panel deliberated more than five hours before returning a guilty verdict against Donald Thompson on all four counts of indecent exposure. The jury had requested a dinner break around 6:30 p.m. and sent a note to the judge at 8:49 p.m. that a decision had been reached.

Jurors recommended one year in prison and a $10,000 fine on each count against the judge, 59, who served more than 20 years on the bench in eastern Oklahoma before his retirement in 2004.

Thompson showed little emotion but his wife, Paula, wept as the verdicts were read. He was ordered into custody but was allowed to consult with his attorneys and family before being led away.

Presiding Judge C. Allen McCall set bond at $75,000, which Thompson's attorneys said would be posted Friday morning. McCall scheduled Thompson's formal sentencing for Aug. 14.

The conviction will require Thompson to register as a sex offender, and could jeopardize his $7,489.91-a-month pension from the state.

The longtime judge said the "penis pump" at the center of allegations against him was simply a gag gift that he never used.

In closing arguments Thursday, defense attorney Clark Brewster called the device "a joke."

"Why in the world would anybody have this behind the bench?" he said, holding the pump.

"It's a stupid thing," he said, setting it down.

Brewster left the courthouse and didn't speak with reporters.

Thompson was accused of using the device during four jury trials in 2002 and 2003.

On Thursday, the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals ruled that "sufficient chain of custody was established for admission of a penis pump" the judge had been accused of using behind the bench.

Donald Thompson, 64, was collared by cops in Sapulpa, where he used to serve as a Creek County District Court judge (until, of course, investigators discovered his bizarre courtroom habits).

According to a police report, Thompson was spotted using binoculars to observe ex-girlfriend Angela McClanahan-Fernandez, who was being aided by a cop since her car had a flat tire.

CHEYENNE -- A former Creek County judge convicted of indecent exposure nearly two years ago has been released from prison.

Prison officials say 61-year-old Donald Thompson was released Tuesday from the Roger Mills County Jail in Cheyenne, where he had been staying for several months in a bed contracted by the Department of Corrections.

Thompson was accused of using a penis pump during four trials between 2002 and 2003. His former court reporter testified during his trial in 2006 that she saw Thompson expose himself during trials at least 15 times.

He was convicted in June 2006 of four counts of indecent exposure, sentenced to four consecutive one-year prison terms and fined $40,000.

The married father of three grown children, Thompson maintained the penis pump was given to him as a gag gift, and he denied ever using it during trials.
