Circumstances of Disappearance
Marechal, from Jupille, Belgium, went to France on July 6, 2001, for a mountaineering course at the Belgian Alpinist Club in Bérarde. He was last seen leaving alone for a trek around 5:00am on July 22 from the Refuge de la Muzelle in Écrins National Park. He had planned to take a parallel road from the GR54 mountain footpath but has not been seen since. His car, a gray Renault Megane with a Luxembourg registration number DN 499, was left behind nearby in Bourg d’Arud. His whereabouts remain unknown.
