Serendipitously, I mistyped a Doe Network # and came across this gentleman's case. I scoured and couldn't find a thread for him so I am starting one. This is such a sad and dramatic end to someone's life. I feel as though he must have been local...it just doesn't seem like someone would come from too far away to climb a 150' water tower and jump to their death as this young man did. Definitely a case that needs some attention.

Not sure of the etiquette of replying to my own post but...how about this guy:

Gregory Hugh Oliver – The Charley Project

Cons: height and weight do not match and he doesn't appear to have curly hair.

Pros: Location and race match. Also, Mr. Oliver may have been suffering from depression and ocholophobia which is a fear of large crowds.

Can't think of a much more isolated place than the top of a 150' water tower.
Hmmmm.

He used his shirt to blindfold himself and stuffed two handkerchiefs into his mouth as a gag, then dove head first from the tower.

Newspaper reported his height at 5’ 8” vs NamUs 5’ 6”.

“Slicked back” curly brown hair.

His red jogging shorts had “white trim”

His white socks has red trim and his sneakers were gray.

He had a red bandanna tied around his ankle.

IMO, those are VERY odd behaviors. Gag yourself so you won’t scream? Blindfold yourself so you can’t see where you’re going? That seems so much more likely if someone else was involved!

John Degnan missing from Fort Lauderdale FL 11/2/80 looks like he could a possibility. Brown hair, hazel eyes, 5’7” and 145 lbs. (everything matches)

Per law enforcement - Parents received a note in their mailbox from MP on the morning of 11/2/1980 that he was going away for a while and would be back that they shouldn't worry, Love John. His vehicle was left parked in the driveway.

I agree that stats match up well and there is definitely a resemblance to the sketch.
What I don't like so much is the nearly 3 year interval between the last time Mr. Degnan was seen and the UID took his life.

Right, I agree with you on that. He did state that he was leaving for a while but would be back. Maybe, he couldn’t face his parents for one reason or another upon his return.

I certainly wouldn’t rule out based on the sketch, but the chins are very different. His chin could have been damaged in the fall.
