The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)
I did a quick search on NamUs and this guy was the closest thing, the quasi-Afro hairstyle is very noticeable but there are slight differences.
At 5' 10" he is slightly shorter and there's a 10 to 20 pound difference in weight.
He had sandy blond hair while this man had graying brown hair but still, could be a matter of perception.
His age would have been slightly above this decedent's upper limit.
The missing man has no family left and he wanted to break off the relationship with his considerably younger partner, a man as I understand it. Perhaps he left to start a new life South? Both had a gold wristwatch.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a 1983 homicide victim. whose body was found alongside a Grady County highway.

On July 15, 1983, about 7:15 a.m., the body of an unidentified white man was located about 10 miles south of Cairo on Ga. 93 South.

The man was 5-foot-11, weighed 160 pounds, had curly grayish/brown hair and a brown mustache. He was believed to be between 40 and 45 years old and had a full upper denture.

The man was wearing a white V-neck-style T-shirt, blue shorts with red trim and basketweave slip-on shoes. The man was also wearing a gold wristwatch and smoked Camel cigarettes.

The man’s death was ruled a homicide, according to the GBI.

Early in the investigation, photographs of the victim were placed in local newspapers in an attempt to identify him. The victim remains unidentified.

GBI forensic artist Kelly Lawson completed a color composite drawing of the victim in further attempts to identify him.

Anyone with information about the victim should contact the GBI Thomasville office at (229) 225-4090.

I was a teenager when this man's body was found in Grady County, on Highway 93 South. As I recall, he had no ID with him. This was before DNA, and I can't remember if they were unable to get fingerprints or if there was no match. Surely, by now, the GBI has searched the vast databases for matches of his fingerprints if they were obtainable. At the time the remains were found, Sheriff Gerald Thomas speculated the deceased could have been involved with drug trafficking and his body was disposed of passing through town. The Sheriff released a photo of the deceased's face, trying to get someone to identify the victim.

I have often thought about this poor soul and his family, not knowing what became of him. If it was not common practice to save DNA in 1983, I would like to see the GBI exhume the body and get DNA samples to compare all the different DNA profiles available today. I understand that they can even check the DNA against Ancestry and other genealogical websites for possible family matches.

I am sure there are family members somewhere who would like to know what became of this victim. I do not remember if the Sheriff or GBI ever released how the victim was killed. When they could not identify the deceased, he was buried as John Doe in the Greenwood Cemetery in Cairo, GA.

Full upper denture - yes, even younger folks can lose all teeth (eg accident, severe dental decay, drug use, illness, medications, homelessness etc.) but I still think this man is in the 55-70 range instead of 35-45. Also he must have been killed at home, he was very casually dressed in swim shorts. Hope he gets his name back soon
