Not reported missing by her mother for over a year.

"When police checked her home, others living there said Lewis had left on foot one day, leaving her purse, clothes, and other belongings behind, and never returned,"

Why am I having a hard time believing the "others"?

Who leaves without their purse?

If it was her home, or, if she was living at a home with others, why didn't the "others" report her missing? Does anybody know any specifics as to where she was living and what kind of "home" it was, and what were the circumstances of her leaving on foot? What do locals think happened to her?

I assume she had no cell phone since Nokias had just come out in '98. Did she have a boyfriend? An ex? Children? Siblings? Was she in a violent relationship? Did she have a job? Who was she hanging out with? What does LE think happened? Did Troup even investigate, or did they just say she ran away?

Alcoholic or not, it seems Deborah Renee Lewis didn't matter much to those who knew her, possibly including her family (though I'm sure there's probably some back story there). Not much (any) media coverage that I can find.

Wiki lists West Point as having a population of less than 4,000, with less than 1000 people living in the "city". It is on the GA- AL line. I would consider it a high poverty and high crime area compared to other similar size towns in Georgia.

It seems Deborah was quickly forgotten. Very sad.
