On December 10, 2024, the DeKalb County Cold Case Task Force announced the identification of John Doe, the unidentified man found deceased on February 6, 2022, behind a store on Columbia Drive in Decatur.

John Doe, who appeared to be unhoused and likely had been living in the area, was found without any identification. His fingerprints did not match any records in the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).

The Task Force located two potential relatives in Georgia and another in Nevada. Using existing DNA profiles from two of the relatives and a new sample from the third, Othram, a private lab in The Woodlands, Texas, confirmed that the remains belonged to Ernesto Eden, who was 58 years old.
