Butts County Sheriff's Office Lt. Matt Munger was one of the first law enforcement officers at the scene that night.

Wallace Road is a narrow, unpaved road near I-16.

"That area is so thick down there, the woods are so thick. The grass is so thick. You can search that area five times and find five different things every time. It's probably like the worst searching conditions you could have," he said.

Munger said law enforcement had searched Wallace Road extensively at least three times.

But on Friday, it was a private search party of about six to eight people from a neighboring subdivision that went looking for Warren, who found his body.

Munger said the body was camouflaged when it was found.

Munger said his body was found about 100 yards from where his car was in the ditch.
He said they believe he went into the woods to explore after his car got stuck.

"We were notified tonight that his body was found about a football length from the truck. At this time we don't know if Mr.Warren walked off and was by himself or if foul play was involved," said Barrow.

Osborne and Peppers are still in custody and we are still waiting on the cause of death of Warren. We will update you when we know more.

I just hope this was a case of him having some kind of medical incident, and his truck was stolen.

Munger said the body was camouflaged when it was found.

I hope we get more info on this. Camouflaged naturally by existing thick vegetation? Or a human attempt to camouflage using surrounding vegetation?

I'm sure the autopsy and investigation will reveal those answers.

A little more info..

Munger said the body was camouflaged when it was found.
"Where it was positioned at, it was — it was covered due to brush," he said. "It blended in well."

A daughter said they don't have any answers or results (I'm guessing regarding the autopsy) but that he was finally released to the family for burial.

RENTZ, Ga. — Garland Warren's family closed a painful chapter on Friday, after they buried him at their family cemetery two months after he went missing.

*****
So many people showed up for Warren's funeral service at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home that it was hard to find an empty seat. Warren's cousin, Joey Diers, led the service to honor his life and spoke about the ways that God blessed Warren.

As his family gathered to lay him to rest in their family cemetery, his daughter Michelle Warren said they're relieved he was found, but they're still looking for answers about his death.

"We have some closure. The main part's home. So soon as we find out the cause then we can go from there," Warren said.

Nearly two years after Garland Warren vanished from his home and was found dead in the woods of Butts County, his family says they are still fighting for answers — and learned only by chance that charges against two people connected to his case had been quietly dropped.

Michelle Warren, Garland's daughter, says she discovered the charges had been dismissed only after she called the Spalding County District Attorney's office herself in February — months after the warrants were dropped in August of 2025. No one from the DA's office or law enforcement ever reached out to notify the family.
