MANCHESTER, Ga. — Police are searching for the person who killed a 17-year-old Georgia football player and left him in an alley near his home.

Brandon Smith’s grandparents reported him missing last week and his body was found Sunday.

His grandmother:

"She added that Brandon’s football coach, Stephen Holmes, was the one to tell her on Sunday that her grandson's body had been found near 3rd Street in Manchester.

"He told me my baby, my baby gone," she said.

Smith said it's her understanding that Brandon was shot multiple times. The Meriwether County coroner said they have not confirmed his cause of death but that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation will be conducting an autopsy on Smith on Tuesday."

19-year-old charged with murder in Georgia high school football player’s death

An argument between the two led to a deadly shooting, the GBI said.
