that happened to my sister on her first jump but she was able to get the emergency chute open

maybe, in this case, the instructor didn't open the emergency chute in time as it was 'partially open'

Jeanna's parents and siblings were there ... very traumatic

How sad. I have always wanted to do a tandem jump just once; however, this type of accident is the reason that my husband refuses to go with me. RIP, Jeanna and Nick.
