GA GA - John Dax Dunn, 40, Coweta Co, 13 Feb 2020

Ok. So doesn’t say when or where fam found the kayak receipt, but how many places could it have been? Motel, travel bag, truck? How did family get access to any of those places before LE? Why didn’t LE find that receipt?

Do you think it is possible that John might have left a note in the truck?

Levy County Sheriff's Star: Update Missing Person John Dunn

This was a March 9 update from Levy Co Sheriffs Office blog.

On February 24th the LCSO saw the missing person flyer posted on various social media sites in Levy County. Detectives contacted the Coweta County (Georgia) Sheriff’s Office and then launched a local investigation.

So, a local investigation didn’t begin until after Levy Co on Feb 24??
Levy Co reached out to CCSO altering seeing a flyer on social media?
Just want to make sure I’m reading this correctly.

Wow! I can't tell you how many times I have read that article, and that never came to my attention. Thank goodness the LCSO was paying attention to SM!

Wouldn’t family members contact Levy Co about John being missing if they thought this was the area he was last seen at? Esp if he was supposed to be home by Feb 18. It was called to Levy Co’s attention on Feb 24; that’s a big window of time.

Did the family report John missing to a local police dept and that’s where the county LE noticed his flyer??

But he wasn’t reported missing until the 20th or 21st. Prob didn’t have bank info to place him in Inglis until after that- so 3 or 4 day window? I would have thought Coweta LE would have contacted Levy LE? Jmo

So notable from timeline- no recent SM pleas (after early March) or posts from fam or LE. Do they think JDD voluntarily missing- as in left/escaped or suicide? Because if they thought medical issue or foul play, wouldn’t there still be active pleas or updates?

@JudgeJoe
Timeline looks great!
And I was thinking the same thing when it comes to pleas, updates, etc especially from family. It’s like they just stopped!

I would think even with suicide they would want to keep looking to find a body for proper closure & burial arrangements. They need a body for life insurance- or wait 5 years for death certificate. And I would think he had/has a strong policy from working at Delta for so long. His wife has bills & 4 kids to care for- she’d need that money before 5 years!

Or maybe they think that body found is JDD & are just waiting for official ID? When was that body found?

NVRMND- that body was found April 8- a month after JDD updates went silent

Maybe we at least have indication by this that he is thought to be alive?

Great find, @Bijola! Welcome to WS!

Wow. Well this does change things.

So she filed for divorce Jan 24. But now disappeared, so public notice for response published April 10.

If he’s alive & wants his half of assets & custody, he’s got till June 10-ish to respond. If he’s told someone where he is, he’ll learn of this deadline & prob deal with it. Otherwise... he’s either deceased or has used his military- or Delta- benefits to possibly fly someplace very far away.

Perhaps he thought disappearing would halt proceedings or provide an extreme delay. But with a publication order, not so much.

I knew marital issue! What husband goes fishing to a 400 miles away mystery location with no communication on Valentine’s weekend!? Jmo

Thank you! I am glad to be here! I just happened to stumble upon all of this today when I saw a post about a missing man on a friend's Facebook page. I decided to see if anything had happened since it was an older post and I couldn't find anything. It is like everyone I knew had posted about this missing man and then boom, it all stopped. I just thought it was odd that there was no family anywhere that have posted anything about him missing that I could find. While looking around more for information about him, I actually stumbled upon a name that I thought might be his wife and when I typed that in, that's when I found this. I like you think something is a lot fishy. I don't know if this find means that he may have gone and hurt himself because he was sad or if it means that because he didn't want to possibly give her the divorce that something may have been done to get rid of him or if he just came upon some bad people who hurt him. I guess the thing that makes me wonder about all of it is the truck and why it was found later. That's just odd, something about this whole thing is just way off. I hate to say that

With this new information, I definitely think it points away from the random crime scenario (which, I agree with you, seemed less likely from the start, given the date he went missing and the strange disconnected nature of his relationship with his wife).

At this point, it does seem to suggest that the divorce proceedings brought against him by his wife were the trigger for his disappearance. Most likely, he’s either choosing to be away/hidden from everyone, or he went off to harm himself. I guess the former is possible, but I would think that he would have at least told someone of his whereabouts (especially his kids) or pet law enforcement know they needn’t be looking for him.

Great find! Welcome to WS, @Bijola! That is why it always helps to have many people looking for information--the more eyes we have, the better! This explains why John's friends took a lead role in looking for John. I really hope he is hiding somewhere, but at the same time, I'm very worried that something horrible happened.

Oh my!
This may be a reason why the wife wasn’t heard from as much as you’d normally expect if a spouse was missing. Of course that’s JMO.

Me too...I still am baffled about the whole thing, none of it makes sense. If one of my loved ones just vanished, you would see posts on every site and I would be all over everything talking and asking for clues and help to find my loved one. I came in late to the case so correct me if I am wrong, but I didn't see anything from the family about wanting to find him, did he have any kin besides his immediate family that have been trying to find information? Like TatianaBarbie said, I only saw where various friends had been looking and trying to find out what happened. I feel like even if I was angry and wanted to divorce my spouse, I would still be searching and looking everywhere for him, after all he is father to my children, if he just vanished. I am so confused because none of the scenarios make sense.

Quoting myself, I didn’t notice the date so what I said didn’t really make sense. Just the opposite actually, hoping that he didn’t harm himself.

Was he not living at home when he disappeared?

We were never given an exact location where he was last seen, other than town and county. But if he hadn't been living at home, that would explain why he was last seen the day before he left for his trip to Florida. It was said that John was last seen on Thurday, and he left Friday morning. I had always wondered why nobody reported seeing John leave on Friday morning. Details are starting to make sense now.

The remains found in Citrus County on April 4th have been identified, and they are not John's:

Sheriff's Office ID's skeletal remains found in early April

"The skeletal human remains recovered April 4 in a wooded area near West Dunnellon Road between U.S. 19 and North Citrus Avenue, in Crystal River by the Citrus County Sheriff's Office have been identified as 29-year-old, Kyle Clifford Corriveau, according to a news release issued late Friday by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office."
