Two sisters accused of killing a 3-year-old boy for eating a cupcake face malice and felony murder charges in the Oct. 21 death of Kejuan Mason at a home on Cleveland Avenue. Kejuan lived with Glenndria Morris, who was also his legal guardian at the time of the killing.

According to Atlanta police, LaShirley Morris beat the boy with a bat as punishment for eating a cupcake. Because she did not intervene during the fatal beating, Glenndria Morris also faces second-degree murder and second-degree child cruelty charges.

the trial for Glenndria and Lashirley Morris will begin March 4.

Sometimes I am overwhelmed by the sadistic cruelty being done by family members against defenseless, and total helpless little children. It never seems to end.

How in the world could these depraved acts even happen?

Where does the hatred, violence, and rage come from in order to even be capable of doing something like this?

It's like these type of murderers are some kind of subhuman beings.

Poor little baby. To be brutally murdered over a cupcake is incomprehensible to me.

Imo

TRIAL DELAYED FOR GODMOTHER, WOMAN ACCUSED IN BOY’S FATAL BEATING

March 4, 2019

"Two sisters accused beating a boy to death for eating a cupcake will not go to trial this week, the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office confirmed.

Glenndria and LaShirley Morris were scheduled for trial on Tuesday in the beating death of 3-year-old Kejuan Mason, but their attorneys are expected to file a continuance, a spokesman with the Fulton district attorney’s office said.

A reason for the continuance was not given. Efforts to reach their attorneys were unsuccessful.

The delay comes a week after The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported LaShirley Morris and five other women were charged in a Feb. 9 attack at the Fulton County Jail. A jail report does not say what led to the attack, but the victims allege their attackers rushed into their cell and began beating and stomping on them. A sergeant on duty at the jail said the beating was gang-related, according to Fulton court documents...."

In December, LaShirley Morris admitted her guilt, and will now spend life in prison with the possibility of parole.

The case against Glenndria Morris — who was charged for not stopping the fatal beating — is still pending. She’s facing charges of murder, aggravated assault and cruelty to children in KeJuan’s death, the Journal-Constitution reports.

How long will trial backlog loom over Georgia, South Carolina?

In Georgia

On Sunday, Georgia Chief Justice Harold D. Melton extended for another month the statewide judicial emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It continues the suspension of jury trials but signals they could resume next month, noting that “the surge in COVID-19 cases that led to the suspension of jury trials appears now to be declining.

Assuming that conditions generally continue to improve, it is anticipated that the next extension order on March 9 will authorize superior and state courts, in their discretion, to resume jury trials as local conditions allow,” the order says.
