Don't know what to think... Not liking this at all.
Nice-looking woman, and she has gone missing and it was not of her own volition.
What kind of place is The Compound -- is it a neighborhood area where friends and/or relatives live close to each other so they can be together?
Does anyone here in WS have any info on it?
Hoping she is okay and not in danger, but it is worrisome.

Douglas police now say they believe Guillermo De La Cruz Morales, Diaz’s former property manager, was involved in her disappearance.

Morales, a resident of Mexico, is believed to have entered the United States illegally within the last five years, Douglas police say. He faces multiple charges including aggravated assault, false imprisonment, felony drug charges, weapon charges, and a sex/🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 charge. Three of his charges “directly relate to her (Diaz) disappearance,” a police statement confirmed.

The last time Diaz was heard from was while she was at the Compound. She is now thought to be somewhere where she is unable to reach out for help, per a police statement.

Police described Morales as uncooperative in the investigation to find Diaz.

They say “The Compound” is operated and managed by Guillermo De La Cruz Morales, who illegally entered the U.S. from Mexico five years ago.

Investigators say Diaz was known to be with Morales around the time she disappeared, but he has not assisted them with figuring out what happened to her or where she is.

Since coming into the U.S., police say he has a history of arrests including aggravated assault, false imprisonment, sex charges and more.

Morales was arrested in March 2023 and is currently being held in the Coffee County Jail. Since his arrest, he has been in custody of either the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

He has had several hearings since his arrest and will be deported to Mexico after answering for his charges in Coffee County.

Since his arrest, “The Compound” has been deemed unfit and shut down.

Diaz leaves behind three young children. :(

Details of Disappearance

Diaz was last seen in the 900 block of East Ethel Street in Douglas, Georgia on February 7, 2023. She may have been attempting to leave a place locally known as "the Compound", which consists of three houses and a watchtower surrounded by a tall privacy fence. She reached out to two people asking for them to come pick her up, but neither of them responded. She has never been heard from again.

For some time she had been in an on-and-off relationship with Guillermo De La Cruz Morales. Eight months prior to her disappearance, Diaz had reported to police that she was the victim of sexual exploitation. Morales is a suspect in that case, and in Diaz's disappearance.

The Compound has been described by police as a "house of horrors" and they stated five criminal offenses have taken place at or near the property in the few years prior to Diaz's disappearance. At the time she went missing, the Compound was owned by a woman who had a child with Morales and called herself his wife, though they were not actually married. Morales was not living with her there, but he was the property manager. Investigators think Diaz did go willingly to the Compound the day she went missing.

A photo of Morales is posted with this case summary. He is a Mexican national and had been living in the United States illegally, and police described him as a dangerous person who had threatened others. After Diaz went missing, he was arrested for aggravated assault, false imprisonment, felony drug offenses, weapons offenses and a sex 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 charge. Three of the charges are directly related to Diaz's disappearance.

Authorities do not believe Diaz left of her own accord and they consider her to be in extreme danger; they think that wherever she is, she isn't able to reach out for help. She left behind three children. Her disappearance remains unsolved. Authorities described Morales as uncooperative in the investigation into what happened to her.

After Diaz's disappearance, the Compound was declared unfit for human habitation by the local code enforcement and the property was sold by its former owner, who left the state.

According to the investigator in Diaz’s case, Guillermo De La Cruz Morles, an undocumented immigrant with a detailed criminal history has instilled fear in potential witnesses, discouraging them from assisting in the search for Diaz.

Investigator Brittany O’steen tells WALB, “I hope that they feel that they don’t have a threat anymore and can come forward and answer to maybe where Maria is located. We do believe at this point it is a homicide.”
