Noah was found dead May 16, a day after he was reported missing, in a borrow pit filled with water near his home in Jesup, Georgia, law enforcement and Johnson have said. A borrow pit is an area where material like dirt or soil has been dug out for use at another site.

He was last seen hanging out with a 10-year-old, whom he had known for a few months and considered a friend, and an 11-year-old he’d met that day, Johnson said.

“At some point, they pressured Noah to go down to the borrow pit,” said Johnson, who has met with the district attorney and viewed the evidence.

“It’s a deep, canyon-like place. And in the low places, water fills up in it, like swimming-pool sizes of water,” he said, adding that the area is in “total disrepair” with fences and gates broken down, allowing access to people.

Johnson said an argument ensued between the boys, and he “was pushed into the water by the older juvenile.”

The sheriff’s department said at the time that his death was an accident and that no foul play was involved. But family members disputed that finding, arguing that Noah was afraid of water and would not have gone near it, according to NBC affiliate First Coast News. Hundreds of people protested the department’s findings in the days after Noah’s death.

“She always believed that there was more to this,” Johnson said of Noah’s mother. “I don’t know if I recall anybody who’s been more regretful that they were right.”

Noahs’ mother believes the sheriff’s office almost overlooked her son’s death as a homicide and criticized the sheriff’s office’s handling of the investigation, Johnson said

“It is her belief that, ultimately, her child didn’t matter to them,” he said.

Noah was Black. Johnson said the two boys who were arrested are white.

The sheriff’s department did not respond to questions from NBC News about the family's allegations.

“There may be others who are involved in concealing the actions of the 10 and 11 year old and everyone who was involved in that, who was a party to those crimes, should be held to account,” Johnson said.

But he said the family is grateful to the local district attorney for ultimately deciding that the two boys and one of their mothers should face charges.

Oh, oh, oh...I just came across this case today.
How terrible that this mother had to fight so hard to convince LE that this was foul play. Noah was found lying face down in water and was afraid of water. Yet LE initially refused to look into the case as a possible homicide. It was only through Mom's efforts that the DA finally supported her.

I'm a bit confused by this comment about the sentencing for the 11 year old. Doesn't he have a trial/hearing first to find out if he is guilty? Or did he confess?
The sentencing for an 11-year-old boy charged in connection to the death of Noah Bush has been continued until August 22, due to complications with the boy's representation.

The boy faces several charges, including involuntary manslaughter and concealing the death of another in the case of Bush, an 8-year-old Wayne County child that was found dead in May in a borrow pit in Jesup.
And the mother of one of the accused youths was arrested for false statements or concealing facts.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office says an adult is also facing charges in the case. Natalie Hardison, the mother of one of the boys, was arrested on July 10 on a felony charge of making false statements.

Rest in peace dear Noah. And may your mother find justice for your death.

The above article linked above clarifies the charges against to the two boys.

The 11-year-old has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, simple battery, concealing the death of another and criminal trespass, while the 10-year is charged with concealing the death of another and criminal trespass.

The 10- and 11-year-old boys are being sentenced to two years of confinement, and one boy's mother is facing charges herself.

Two years for a life.
Can the 11 year old be rehabilitated in only two years?

Such a sad case. Cases like this, involving such young kids, are so difficult to deal with.

"Prosecutors say the child admitted to pushing Noah into a water-filled clay pit and holding his head under until he drowned." (from the MSN article linked above)

I thought it was horrible enough when I had first thought that Noah drowned after one boy pushed him in. But this says not only did he push him in, but he held his head under until he was dead! So much worse! I would not want a person who could do that to be out on the streets in 2 years (no matter their age).

But I'm confused by how he did this. Maybe I just still don't understand what a borrow pit is, but I thought I did, after reading the simple explanation above and in the article. I would've thought someone could only end up in the bottom of one if they had fallen in (or had been pushed, as in this case.) And I also would've thought that if you did somehow fall in to it, that you would be in deep water and that it would be difficult, if not impossible, to get yourself back up out of it, because of steep tall sides, probably mud-covered.

But maybe I pictured it wrong, if the other boy apparently followed Noah into the pit (after pushing him in), where he was able to hold his head under the water until he drowned. So he could just climb in after him? Seems like that would've taken some time, which should've given Noah time to get out of the water or do something to avoid getting held under water by this other kid! I guess it's not all water down there? The officer in the article said water collects in them, "like swimming pool sizes of water". I thought he meant deep, but I think he means more like surface area-wise. But apparently, there's non-water-covered places around the water, where the other boy could stand, when he killed Noah. How scary.

And then the boy's mother is charged also, because they told her about the death, and she didn't report it or send help or anything? Did he run home immediately after it happened and tell her right then? I assume it was the other boy who told his mom that his friend had pushed Noah into the pit and drowned him, not the boy who did it. I guess the reason I thought he had told her immediately after it happened was because it said it was recorded on their Ring camera of him telling his mom. Sounded like he just ran home and breathlessly told his mom about it before he had even made it inside the front door.

Well, that boy has serious issues, and I don't see how they can expect him to be ok in 2 years. Aren't they worried about him being a danger to the community then, and possibly hurting someone else? Surely they'd feel some responsibility there. This was a vicious thing to do. That poor Noah. And his family too.
