Preston Overton went missing on June 8th, 2017. He was last seen with his friend, Chad Garner, who was found dead on June 11th.

Overton was reportedly last seen with 27-year-old Chad Garner at a motel in Augusta. On June 10, the truck he had been driving was recovered on Tybee Island, and the following day, June 11, Garner was found dead in his underwear inside a shed on Peach Orchard Road, his body riddled with bullets. Both of the men's clothes were found full of blood and bullet holes in a burning pile outside the home of Vaughn Verdi, 23, who has since been arrested and faces one charge of murder. William Krepps, 23, was also arrested and charged with murder. The shed in which Garner was found was on Krepps' family property.

UPDATE | One of three arrested in man's murder, another man's disappearance looks to drop charges

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The suspect in a double homicide case wants his charges dismissed claiming his attorney-client privilege was violated.

24-year-old Vaughn Verdi says a conversation between him and his attorney was recorded and that they didn't know. Because of that, Verdi wants his charges dropped.

During the Richmond County Superior Court hearing, attorneys for Vaughn A. Verdi, Williams J. Krepps, and Emily Stephens told the judge they were missing copies of evidence they believe should have been included in the discovery they were given earlier this year.

The three have pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges in the deaths of 27-year-old Chad V. Garner and 28-year-old Preston Overton, who were last seen alive the night of June 8, 2017. Overton’s body has not been found but he has been declared dead.

RICHMOND COUNTY, GA (WRDW/WAGT) -- The family of a man who has been missing for almost two years says remains found off Highway 56 are his.

Preston Overton was last seen in June 2017. Overton's mother, Donna Overton, wrote in a Facebook post and confirmed to us that the remains found near International Paper belonged to her son.

"Just wanted to let everyone know that the remains on Hwy 56 are Preston's," the post said. "Not ready to answer a lot of questions right now, but just wanted to let everyone know."

Bowen says positive identification on those bones will have to be determined through dental records or DNA from GBI investigators. That could take several days.

Details remain limited in this case, but an investigation is ongoing.

Three of the people involved in the murder of Preston Overton learned their fate Friday.

Joseph Krepps was given a life sentence with a chance of parole. Austin Verdi and Emily Stephens were found guilty of tampering with evidence. Verdi was sentenced to six years confinement and three years probation. Stephens got one year confinement and four years probation.

Preston Overton was missing for 665 days. The grandfather of Preston Overton's kids, Adam Clyburn, says the most heart-breaking part through it all was not knowing.

Earlier this week, the family says investigators found Preston's bones on Highway 56. The man who was charged in his murder, Krepps, told investigators where to find the remains in exchange for a life sentence with a chance of parole.
