Family of Gwinnett man found stabbed to death in front yard wants accountability, justice

The body of 44-year-old Matthew Jones was found Monday morning in the front yard of the Suwanee home where he lived with his parents.

On Monday, Jones' family received a phone call from Gwinnett County Police that they didn't expect. Around 10 a.m. officers responded to an emergency call and found Jones' body in the front yard of the home where he lived with his parents.

According to officers, Jones had been stabbed to death. They had found him in the yard of the home along Ridge Oak Drive in Suwanee.

His parents were out of town at the time. Jones' sister and her husband came to Suwanee as quickly as possible and met with officers outside the home as the investigation began.

The person in the photo, according to the department, is "seen on camera walking towards and then away from the homicide scene" on Sept. 5. In the photo, the suspect is wearing:

• A black hoodie with a reflective strip
• Black pants
• White shoes
• A two-strap backpack

Video is pretty high resolution you'd think somebody would have cropped it to make it a little easier to see the person of interest. Upon going through the hassle of zooming in and watching the commercial twice it looks to me like rather than a backpack, the person is carrying a handbag or purse and might be drunk or otherwise limping slightly. Could very easily be a woman. Furthermore since the footage appears to be in black and white I think it's pretty presumptive to say the hoodie and pants are black.

It looks like a man to me, but its hard to tell. Reminds me of the suspect in the Scott Ratigan case up in Northern Virginia, albeit with white shoes

Family reacts to arrest made in 2022 Suwanee murder after tip from NYPD breaks cold case

A tip from 800 miles away in New York led Gwinnett County Police to the arrest of Delano Hill at his home after getting new information in December.

Gwinnett County police said the break in the case came when the New York Police Department contacted them in December 2024 about a suspect who had shared details of a Georgia homicide that authorities said only the killer would know.

“Investigators ultimately identified the picture suspect in the New York incident as Delano Hill,” said Gwinnett County Police spokesperson Juan Madiedo. “He’s a 20-year-old resident of Suwanee. He was taken into custody via search warrant and arrested.”

Hill was arrested on March 21 and is facing charges of aggravated assault, felony murder, and malice murder. He is currently being held without bond in the Gwinnett County Jail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday morning.
