Recovered/Located GA - Teka Chatman, 22 mos; VPD seeking mom with arrest warrant; Valdosta; 3 Aug 2021

Investigators say they are trying to find 22-month-old Teka Chatman, who was allegedly taken by 25-year-old Nizziria Chatman Tuesday afternoon during a supervised visit at the Valdosta Mall.

Both were last seen leaving the mall on foot just after noon.

Teka was last seen wearing a light blue shirt with gold designs, pink shorts, and pink shoes. Her hair was in a braided type of hairstyle.

Nizziria was last seen wearing a beige shirt, black and white pants, and black and white slide-type shoes. Her hair was braided and pulled back in a bun-type style.

VPD says that there is an arrest warrant for Nizziria Chatman in connection to this incident.

Around 1:53 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to the Valdosta Mall after receiving an E911 call about a missing child, a Valdosta Police Department statement said.

Officers were told that Teka Chatman, age 22 months, was taken without permission by her non-custodial mother during a supervised visit, the statement said.

Teka and her mother were last seen leaving the mall on foot around 12:09 p.m., police said.

And who was supervising? Somebody has some explaining to do. Was she strapped in a stroller or being held when the mom took her baby in her arms? Mom must be desperate to be with her baby. Clearly she’s not thinking rationally but she must believe so to undertake such action.

Was this a spontaneous or premeditated act? Did she have a plan? Did she have a getaway car waiting for her somewhere? The little one is so young. A baby has special environmental and basic needs. Was she prepared to shelter and provide nutrition?

Child has been located. Teka Chatman has been located, she is safe and currently in the care and custody of the State of Florida. Nizziria Chatman has been arrested and charged with kidnapping (Felony).

On August 2, 2021, at approximately 1:53 pm., Valdosta Police Officers responded to Valdosta Mall, after receiving an E911 call about a missing child. Officers were informed that Teka Chatman, was taken without
permission by her non-custodial mother, Nizziria Chatman, during a supervised visit. Detectives responded and began to investigate the case, looking for the missing child. Nizziria and Teka were last seen leaving the Valdosta Mall on foot, at approximately 12:09 pm.

Her non-custodial mother, Nizziria Chatman, 25, of Valdosta, has been charged with felony kidnapping, pollice said.
