Emotions erupted when the families of two sons — one dead, the other charged with his murder — met Monday in a corridor of the Clayton County Courthouse.

The angry exchange began when a reporter posed a question to Chimere Calloway, the mother of 2-year-old Xavier Miranda, who was shot to death, police say, by a man who stole the family's $1,700 income tax refund check.

"I want him to get the death penalty! I want him to die, I want him to die!" Calloway said of the suspect, Torrin Demond Reese. "He is through. He's through!"

Three people who were involved in killing a 2-year-old over his mother's tax refund check have reached plea deals and were sentenced Monday for their roles in the slaying.

Torrin "Toe" Reese, the alleged triggerman, was sentenced to life in prison for murder. Michael Hendrix and Shakeila Hampton, who came up with the scheme to steal Chimere Calloway's tax refund, were sentenced to ten years for conspiracy to commit armed robbery...

A fourth suspect had pleaded guilty last week. Kearndric David Smith pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit the armed robbery that resulted in the death of Xavier Miranda.
