Here are details of another very cold sounding case:

Sailor’s Sister, NCIS Plead for Help Solving 40-Year-Old Murder Cold Case

Here is part of the above report:

But on Jan. 1, 1980, Vaught's body was found at the Holland St. and Bainbridge Ave. intersection on the now-closed Naval Base Charleston in South Carolina. He'd been strangled -- the heavy-gauge steel wire still around his neck -- when a pair of sailors found him just after noon that New Year's Day.

Four decades have passed without answers. Naval investigators never determined a motive or found a suspect.

Here is an interesting report about an arrest in a recent cold case arrest:

With arrest in 2005 murder case, retired Pasco detective gets closure:

Since 2005, detectives have found new evidence, deputies said. According to Koenig, witnesses who were not at the scene of the crime saw Stoll later and said he had bloody clothing and told them he killed a woman and her dog.

And “new technologies” have allowed for better DNA analysis, he said.

Though there were no signs of sexual assault, detectives found a pubic hair in Bobrick’s home, Jenkins said. Recent testing of the hair ties Stoll to that location, he said. Sheriff’s Office spokesman Kevin Doll declined to elaborate further on the new testing technology.

Stoll’s previous incarceration was helpful as detectives tried to build their case, Jenkins said, because it allowed them time to compile the strongest evidence before arresting him.

Salinas police ask for help solving 2011 cold case homicide - KION546:

SALINAS, Calif. (KION) Salinas police are asking for the public's help solving the 2011 murder of 61-year-old Artemio Garcia.

Early in the morning on Oct. 23, police said Garcia went to his car parked on Casentini Street. Police said he drove to Gilroy every day around that time to work as a truck driver.

Detectives said Garcia was approached by an unknown suspect and was shot at close range for unknown reasons. Family members later went to the area and found Garcia dead.

Garcia had no gang ties and no criminal history, according to Salinas police. The motive for his murder is still unknown.
