The police and federal police, who always have a strong presence at and around Hamburg Central Station, were on the scene in a matter of seconds. They were able to overpower and disarm the perpetrator. The woman's personal details were confirmed. According to BILD, she is German and is known to the police. According to the investigations so far, she is also known to be mentally ill and has already spent time in a psychiatric ward.

IMO. I'm not surprised she is known to police.
With known mental illness and as a citizen, I believe she would have qualified for financial assistance for housing. I wonder why she doesn't have a fixed address -- her choice?

Speaking to my son in Hannover, the assailant had been released from a mental care institution one day before the attack.

She was known to police for an attack on a 6 year old child recently at Hamburg airport and was under investigation.

This should be in BILD, cant access due to "bad connection".

According to Bild, Lydia S., who was born in Braunschweig, was admitted to a specialist clinic in Bremerhaven until 22 May - for four days. She is said to suffer from paranoid schizophrenia. In this clinical picture, those affected suffer from hallucinations and delusions.

Bild also reports that Lydia S. is said to have attacked a six-year-old girl in Terminal 1 at Hamburg Airport in February 2025. She is currently under investigation for assault because of the incident.

According to Bild, there was another incident in Hamburg's Ochsenzoll psychiatric hospital: On the ward where she was hospitalised in March 2025, she is also alleged to have committed an assault. It is unclear where the 39-year-old was between hospital stays; she is believed to be homeless.

The attacker is said to be known to the police and has already spent several periods in a psychiatric ward. The homicide squad ('Mordkommission') has started the investigation.
