I'm not saying European women don't shave, I know they do, but I was just wondering about the kid's underear. I am probably overthinking it, since lots of petite women wear kids clothes because they are cheaper.

Operation Identify Me: Seeking the names of unidentified victims of murder
Case name: The body in the carpet
Case code: 2023-DE04

  • #24
  • Date of death (estimated): 30 June 2002
  • Date of discovery: 30 July 2002
  • Location: Germany: Port at the Weser in Bremen
  • Sex: Female
  • Estimated year of birth: 1967-1977
  • Estimated age: 22 to 35 years old
  • Height: 167 cm
  • Skin tone: Fair complexion
  • Hair colour: 43 cm long, dark blond hair dyed golden blond, wavy, probably permed, overall well-groomed
  • Eye colour: Unknown
  • Clothing: The woman was wearing only light cotton pants size 140, a child’s size
  • Tattoos, birth marks, scars: An examination of the body revealed that the woman may have given birth between 1985 and 1999 (live or stillborn). No other conspicuous scars or tattoos were found on the body.
  • Jewellery: The woman was wearing a silver earring with a red stone on her right ear, believed to have been manufactured in Ukraine (Kharkov) in 1956 by what was known as a jewel combine. It may have been bought in another country. On her left ear, she was wearing a gold-colored earring with a dark stone. She also wore a conspicuous hair clip with a neon green butterfly design made from plastic with a metal clasp and probably of Russian origin.

The case

The body was found in the Weser river at a marina, on 30 July 2002 wrapped in sheets, a plastic sack, a fabric cover and a carpet and tied up. It was found by a recreational boat skipper who saw the 'bundle' floating in the water at the marina alerted police.

Police believe that the body had been floating in the Weser river for about four weeks. This river flows from Lower Saxony through the area south of Bremen and then through Bremen.

Until today, it has not been possible to establish the cause of death, but the woman had injuries to her throat.

Characteristics

A reconstruction of soft facial tissues was prepared by police experts which may give an impression of the woman's appearance. With a weight of 50 to 55 kg, the woman was very petite and, despite her presumed age of 22 to 35 years, of almost childlike build. She wore purple nail polish on the manicured, longer nails of her fingers and toes. There was a gold-colored base coat under the purple top coat nail polish. It could be what is referred to as 'Nail Art'.

The woman had temporary fillings in two teeth (Z14 and Z26), covered with a product also used in Germany. Signs indicate that the dental work had not been completed and took place not more than several weeks or a few months before her death.

There is information suggesting that the woman may have given birth between 1985 and 1999 or had a stillborn child. If born, the child was probably between 3 and 17 years old when the woman died and would be aged 24 to 38 now.

The earring with the red stone was manufactured in Ukraine (Kharkov) but it may also have been sold in other countries. The word 'NIFREE' is engraved on the gold-colored earring stopper. This unusual jewellery could be a clue to her identity.

The woman had thick, curved, full eyebrows, her pubic and armpit hair were shaved. Her appendix was in place. Her body was wrapped in a conspicuous multicolored blanket with a red border.

I watched the videos last night and couldn't sleep. Did some digging and came up with a woman, matching the age, birth of a child in 1990 and missing after a argument with the criminal ex husband. Looking at the pictures, the head shape to the reconstruction is very simillar, also the hair color does match a sample they found. The only thing not matching is the height. Who knows, she could have used some of his contacts and went to Germanies redlight districts instead of being cemented somewhere, like they have been suspecting. KUBICOVA Luboslava

Her eye color is very distinctive. Also it is more likely she was killed in Slovakia and hidden away by her ex husband.
Unlikely for her to be dumped into a German river that is a 14 hour drive and multiple countries away.

A couple of woman out of Ukraine, although very limited info for them.

Or maybe Nada Furic out of Croatia? So hard to find more about her though, possibly because of the language barrier.

What about Krystsina Lukanina? But apart from the fact that she looks like the reconstruction, I can't find much other information about her.

I can’t find any details about her disappearance, only this poster which says she left her home in Grodno and never came back

What strikes me though is that the description says “The woman had thick, curved, full eyebrows”, although the eyebrows in the reconstruction photo are quite thin and not really curved. I don't think the missing persons already listed (apart from maybe Nada Furic) here have thick and full eyebrows, but maybe this is subjective to the time she was found? Thin and over-plucked eyebrows were a trend in the 90s and early 00s though, perhaps she had well-groomed but slightly thicker eyebrows, but not “full” as we would now describe “full eyebrows”?

Hi everyone, I’d like to share an update from my research into the case of the unidentified woman found in 2002 near the river Weser in Bremen, Germany, sometimes referred to as Bremen Jane Doe.

Recently, I submitted a possible match: Tatsiana Tarasenka, born in 1979 in Russia and reported missing from Belarus in early June 2002, when she was 23 years old.

Tonight, I received confirmation from the authorities that a DNA comparison between Bremen Jane Doe and Ms. Tarasenka has already been conducted by German police, and the result was negative. This means that she has been officially ruled out.

Why I believed she might be a match:

There were several compelling reasons that led me to explore this possibility:
•Timing: Tarasenka’s disappearance in early June 2002 fits within the estimated death window of the unidentified woman.
•Age & Origin: She was born in 1979, making her 23 at the time, aligning with the autopsy’s estimate of 22–35 years and a birth year range of 1967–1980. She also matched the “Eastern European” profile described.
•Physical traits: Her sister described her as having thick eyebrows, which the Bremen Jane Doe also had, per the autopsy.
•Maternity match: Tarasenka had a daughter born around 1998–1999. The autopsy concluded Jane Doe had given birth between 1985–1999.
•Facial similarities: I noticed strong similarities between her earlier photos and the facial reconstruction of Jane Doe — especially in facial proportions and brow/forehead shape.
•The butterfly hair clip: While researching the distinctive green butterfly hair accessory found with Jane Doe, I exhausted my local resources — including antique stores and Eastern European contacts — but haven’t been able to identify its origin.

However, there were also inconsistencies:
Tarasenka’s official height is listed as 180 cm with a clothing/shoe size of 38, which seemed improbable. I suspected this was a clerical error or database confusion.

While I’m glad to have an answer, I think this experience reveals a broader issue: many missing persons databases and forensic platforms are not interconnected.
•One organization I contacted told me that no comparison had ever been done between these two individuals.
•Yet, national police agencies had already conducted and resolved the DNA comparison without this being reflected publicly.
•This disconnect led to weeks of effort chasing a theory that had already been ruled out — quietly — behind the scenes.

This isn’t a complaint, just an observation. I’m grateful for the reply I received. But I believe that improved transparency and data sharing between systems like Interpol, The Doe Network, NamUs, and local police agencies could make a huge difference — especially for volunteer researchers and families of the missing

I’ll keep working on this case and others. Even when matches are ruled out, every effort brings us closer to the truth. If anyone has insight into Soviet/post-Soviet-era butterfly hair clips (particularly green ones), or potential Eastern European missing women who fit Bremen Jane Doe’s profile, I’d love to hear from you.

Thanks for reading and to everyone here doing this kind of work: your efforts matter.

That stud is a stud used for piercing guns. Looks like she had her ears pierced quite freshly (within 6 months). One ear had healing issues so she kept the stud in and the other healed sufficiently so she could wear the heirloom earring she got from her mom or grandma (as common in Ukrainian/Russian culture).

Yes this is exactly what i thought! I bought the exact same pair of earrings on Etsy in memory of her. According to the shop owner they were ussr/cccp vintage. Her case had been stuck with me since 2022. I had her butterfly hair clip tattooed on my forearm as well. I personally would never give up on her case even though i had this major set back.

Looks like her hair is naturally golden blonde. The Doe has dark blonde hair. And i can't find more information about her either...

This woman's already mentioned in posts, and fully agreed, I think this missing woman is the image of the woman found in carpet:
1758792990089.webp

Valentina Fedorovna Karpov, missing since 1997 from Minsk Belarus,
thin build medium height, dimpled chin, dob 1967

This woman also mentioned already:
1758793190567.webp

Alesya Fedorova, Dec 1 1999 Belarus
dob 1979, 5'5" 110lbs

1758794759033.webp

Svetlana Volodimirovna Shevchenko, missing from Luhansk region Ukraine June 1996
5'2", left Ukraine for Aksay, Rostov Region, Russian Federation for business purposes, never returned

Jmo, this missing woman looks incredibly like the woman found in the carpet, but unless she was murdered and preserved for a significant amount of time (perhaps in some way that also lightened her hair), it's impossible. I have to admit, though, when I saw the note about the carpeting (bolded below) on this, I really couldn't help but wonder:
1758799912338.webp

Television journalist Iwona Mogila-Lisowska missing from Lodz Poland since Nov 1992. Former husband claimed she had gone to Germany, had brought her passport and clothing. This was not the case, she did not bring any documents or her car. A bag of clothes were found buried in the yard of her residence. Bag contained items she'd supposedly brought to Germany, as well as a carpet from under the fireplace. 5'5". Also, I looked up surname "Moglia," it's listed as Ukrainian origin.
