Hi everyone.
Dont know who is familiar with the South African case of Gert van Rooyen and Joey Haarhof and the missing girls.
It happend in the 1980ies.
7 girls were kidnapped and 1 escaped. The 6 others were never found. And before the police could question or catch the suspect at the time him (Gert van Rooyen) and his lover (Joey Haarhoff) were linked to their disappearances, he shot himself and his lover.
So the case has been unsolved until now.
Anyone know if there is any new developments on this case?
So sad that the girls were never found.

Very unsettling...never heard of this case. He was obviously "into" Caucasian girls. Anything known about missing black African girls in this time frame?

Son of Gert van Rooyen wants to reopen case

WARNING - GRAPHIC PHOTOS: "There was never a suicide pact between my father and Joey." Listen to Gerhard's voice recording:

After nearly three decades, pedophile Gert van Rooyen's son lifts the veil for the first time on what he claims happened on the day of Gert and his wife Joey Haarhoff's death.

"There was never a suicide pact between my father and Joey," Gerhard said in a video posted on Facebook.

The photos show Gert and Joey each with a single head shot from behind.

He challenged experts to determine that the couple did commit suicide.

Van Rooyen and Haarhoff allegedly abducted teenage girls in Pretoria between 1988 and 1990.

In January 1990, 16-year-old Joan Booysen was abducted. Shortly afterwards, however, she was able to escape from the couple's house in Pretoria, after which she put the police on their trail.

Van Rooyen and Haarhoff fled days later when they noticed the police in front of their house in Capital Park

They drove in a car to the Apies River bridge where Van Rooyen apparently first shot Haarhoff and then himself.

"So over the years, thousands of manpower and millions of rands have been wasted on this very, very sad and sensitive investigation that affects not only the children's family's lives, but also ours's."

Gerhard says it seems as if no one wants to work on the case anymore.

"Police officers have resigned, there is no longer a special unit or a child protection unit in the police. My question remains: who is actually investigating this matter, ”he says.

"My request was very simple - declare my father guilty or innocent.

Nobody wanted to follow that route which is very strange. "

Gerhard says that he also requested that the case against his father not be dropped, but that it be re-investigated.

He <the son> suggests that foreign investigators be called in to help.

"But these detectives must prepare not to stare at my father, but to look for the children," he said.

"It is time for the case to be exposed and the right people take responsibility for what happened."

You can recall the history. <modsnip> BTW unless you can lead me to it, there isn't a nationwide database in South-Africa with all missing persons...including those who went missing decades ago.

<modsnip> I'm from Northern European/Scandinavian decent. My parents almost immigrated to South-Africa....I'm so happy they never actually did.
