Isaiah Henriquez, 20, was identified Saturday as the human remains found by a driver who had pulled onto a wooded area of exit 40 on the Southern State Parkway in Islip, state police announced."

When was the house built? He could have just needed a new garage door, and they are less expensive without windows. The windowed garage door may have been on the house when he bought the house from his mother in the 1990s.

Please, do we have anyone with Law Enforcement who is involved with using DNA for identification? It is stressed the “mitochondrial DNA" is being used. Is the mtDNA ALWAYS used this way? Why not the yDNA? As someone who knows just enough to be dangerous, I can't help wondering if mtDNA is ALWAYS used or why it is being stressed in this case.

Not sure if this helps but they said the hair was degraded and because of this they were unable to do traditional analysis and they had to wait for science to catch up.

"The hairs, found in 2010, were degraded and DNA testing at the time couldn’t yield results. But as technology progressed, mitochondrial DNA testing allowed investigators to make the connection, Tierney explained. The victims’ remains “were out in a tough environment for a prolonged period of time. So, there was not a lot of forensic evidence,” Tierney told CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Friday, and credited the FBI and one of its agents for a “phenomenal job” with extracting the evidence."

Is it possible he kept that same truck all these years? They took it away on a flatbed and it looks like the same Avalanche described by the witnesses - that seems a bit sloppy considering all the lengths he went to with the burner phones

I don't think so; I think it was reported further back on the thread that the car from ~2011 was sold and found in another state with a new owner by LE.

I find it interesting how besides the Gilgo 4, Heuermann also was allegedly searching up explicit material with the query "Asian twink tied up".

I'm also curious as to whether he has any connection to the killings in Atlantic City back in 2006, as well as the earlier murders with remains found near Gilgo Beach.

Seems logical that every single search query prosecutors decided to share publicly was done so for a reason, because they try to hold back as much as they can. Many of these search queries, including searching for children, have no obvious direct link to the case of the three women he's accused of murdering. So these details are being shared for ancillary reasons. To generate tips? To let him know they have many more murders yet to pin on him to pressure him to enter plea negotiations? To repulse his wife and daughter in order to get them to cooperate? Just speculating on reasons, but it will become more apparent why they shared what they did as time goes on.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe a primary reason that mitochondrial DNA is used is whenever the root of the hair is not present.

Thank you. I've listened to the DA's press conference. It said it was because the DNA was degraded after being exposed to the elements and that the MtDNA is what had survived enough for comparison. Also, he said that New York law detailed what he could and could not discuss about DNA in a press conference, but that the Bail Application had the information for anyone interested. So. . . guess what I've found ?

Twink is a term used to refer to young gay men who are thin, and one of the victims found near the Gilgo 4 was an unidentified Asian male with women's clothing on (they could've been transgender). I wonder if the officials included that search query in the bail application document because of this.

I don't know. I'm guessing 50s but it would be on any of the realtor sites. My post had more to do with a question of the next door neighbor having a 2-story home right on top of them with not only a bird's eye view but within earshot considering it was suspected yesterday (and intimated by officials) after the release of the bail doc that these girls went back to the home (where their phones were last tracked). I had a cop friend tell me once, when money goes missing and there's nothing to show for it, it's almost always habit.
Drugs, *advertiser censored*, gambling, etc. As I've followed true crime over the decades, that's accurate a good majority of the time.

Not only this. The first symptom of someone who was in remission relapsing would be sudden lack of money. There are lots of addictions, and sex or gambling are just the two of many.

BTW, he doesn’t look like a typical gambler, but it is interesting to find out if he did frequent casinos.

Yeah, not knocking LE in general, I know that is not okay, but this specific force had a lot of problems that have been very well documented in MSM, and seem to have been incredibly resistant to outside help until the recent changing of the guard. I only wonder how much sooner this person could have been in custody had the people responsible for investigating at the beginning been actually investigating, using all the tools and collaborations with other agencies available to them. So many wasted years.

But, we're here now, and I honestly didn't know if I'd live to see it, and I am not in my dotage. I didn't know if it was going to be another Zodiac, unanswered, an open wound with no healing and no justice.

Personally I'd pretty much given up on this case ever being solved and am so thankful that they were able to solve it. Still somewhat stunned that this has actually happened. I, too, wonder how much quicker this could've been solved if the LE hadn't been mired in a less than ideal investigation scenario. You had to mention Zodiac, I've followed that case for decades and just don't really have it in me to continue to really care about it that much. Slight interest yes, but not like I was. Yes, I'd love to see it solved however...I actually am old enough to have been a SF Chronicle paperboy when Paul Avery was writing his Zodiac stories during the early days. The latest idiocy by the "Codebreakers" saying the "scars" on their suspect matched the official sketches was so absurd it was a LOL moment when I read about it! Can they make more of a reach there? I feel that the case could've been solved but due to police departments not sharing their evidence early on and egos they blew it. The latest I've heard is SFPD could possibly has DNA evidence on couple of envelopes, but they are unwilling to spend the money for DNA tests or even accept offers by private parties to do it. So it's at a standstill at this point. I wonder how much more is going to come out on the LISK case as time goes on, I'm not entirely sure that Heuermann killed everyone on Gilgo Beach. Do you think he dismembered anyone? MOO

Yeah, I wondered about that as well. It reminds me of this other suspect a woman was suspicious of because he had a "time out" doll too, either in his home or his car repair shop.

He'd been killing for years by then. And not just killing, but taunting the families. He was confident nobody would find him. And for over a decade, he was right.

But he seriously misjudged how connected the victims he chose were to their families and friends. Those people were never going to forget their loved ones and be quiet.

I suspect he tortured everyone. Dismembering is aimed at getting away with the crime, coupled with possible nerdy interest in anatomy. This guy was into power, control, instilling fear. This is torture, and it probably was exponentially increasing. I bet his wife was scared of him, too. Either to the degree of not asking him where he went, or being totally in denial.

He painted SOME of the trim green. Where there is that split between the two different pitches of roof, the green stops well before the two sections meet. It looks like he painted what he could standing on a ladder, and then stopped when he couldn't reach rather than climbing onto the roof. Definitely a DIY job.

That makeshift corner post would definitely make me think twice about knocking on the door, that looks... precarious. I wonder if it was done because the original posts were rotted out and it was at risk of collapsing. It's one thing if it's just your porch that's sort of stuck on, but that's under the corner of that whole section of roof, that would be terrible for the whole structure if it gave way.

Hmm, with a cover like that on the bed of the truck, no one would ever see what you were carrying around in there. It would fit a body easily.
