Agreed. With all the evidence still to be processed just from NY, it will be awhile. Plus, who knows what else will rear up?

Do you think it's possible for more charges this early?
I doubt it. It’s going to take a long time for forensic testing to be done on everything they’ve taken from the house, storage, etc. Who knows what’s going on with the SC property. It took LE almost a year and a half to have enough evidence and make an arrest since he came on their radar. The next new charge we will be likely to see, IMO would be in Maureen’s case, I don’t believe they were able to include her in the original arrest but were still actively trying to obtain or test enough evidence to add that charge. .

Apologies if this is already shared. Creepy!

LISK podcast producers get a call from... possibly Rex H., claiming the aquarium owner is LISK.

MOO

Edited to add: I found this video because I recalled Amanda, who got calls from LISK, said that his "s" pronounciation stood out to her. I wanted to listen to him. And yeah, RH has a weird "s."

MOO

He sounds kinda like 45, if I’m being honest with you guys.
No, but seriously, we at Websleuths might have be one of the few that knew about the docuseries being made, and who the filmmakers were.

Dunno, this cements my belief RH was a member here at some time, creating multiple profiles and posting especially in Shannan and in J Burke forum, trolling around and naming names and everything.
how else would he know about the documental while it was being made, and knew how to contact Josh? So creepy and disturbing
My opinion only

I doubt it; a trial date probably won’t be set for a while. Most felonies and a lot of misdemeanor crimes drag on for quite some time. A crime of this magnitude is going to see date after date of hearings, discovery, motions, adjournments and so on until an actual trial comes to fruition, IMHO
It will be interesting to see if RH specifically requests/demands a speedy trial.

The right to a speedy trial applies to all New York criminal charges including, but not limited to, traffic tickets and misdemeanors.
According to CPL 30.30, the prosecution must be ready to try a felony within 6 months

There are many additional rules that stop the time clock from running a straight 6 months.
It gets complicated.

There have been a few posts by people who are or once were Sex Workers. I hope you will help me understand procedure. Is it usual to have multiple calls from a potential client before meeting? Maureen Brainard-Barnes had 16 calls with a burner phone; Melissa Barthelemy calls from burner phone on July 3, 6, 9 and 10 - who knows how many calls; Megan Waterman had a call June 5 from a newly registered burner phone (I hope LE has examined the days leading up to June 5 to see if Heuermann was using another phone to contact her) then just one call the next day. Then that phone had no further phone activity. However, her phone traveled to Massapequa Park with the last cell site location being in Massapequa Park at approximately 3:11 a.m. in the vicinity of the residence of Defendant Heuermann. Amber Costello heard from a burner phone just the day before, meeting client same day. The ruse, a text message, then phone communication the day of the murder.

The question is: Is this much prior contact normal when establishing a new client?

Thanks,

I'm no expert but it did sound like him I think
Isn't there technology available to tell us for sure if it is or not? The expert with "Inside Edition" saying "It sounded exactly like him" doesn't cut it. Why hasn't this been submitted to real testing?

I just began watching The Killing Season. I think it was in Episode 2, and I noticed a photograph of a deputy holding a tennis shoe and what looks like plastic packaging/trash. It made me think of the plastic packaging found on rolls of paper towels. Anyone else notice this/think this? I've seen comments about a certain brand mentioned in these posts. Any comments?? BTW I am blown away (after just watching Episodes 1 & 2) by the profiling and details given.

May I add that Rex was caught buying minutes on a burner phone on May 19th so the task force knew time was of the essence.

Was Rex itching to begin again? Det had already learned a DNA profile from on one of the 11 bottles they removed from his home's trash on FEB 24, 2023 matched the hairs recovered from 3 victims.

"On May 19, 2023, Heuermann was captured on surveillance video purchasing minutes on one of the burner phones."

Gilgo Beach murders: Timeline shows what led to arrest of suspect Rex Heuermann in Long Island
Makes me wonder if his wife was going on a trip that officials knew about.. and with all the details they already knew... I have to assume they were really concerned he was going to kill very soon! They had watched him for a year so something/knowledge they had gathered must have made them feel there was imminent danger to a sw (IMO).

I believe that many of us are on WS as our outlet, imagine if one of us were married to a serial killer - surely wouldn't want anyone delving into my computer searches and web posts!

''Harley is the first dog in Canada trained to seek out digital storage devices that may be related to the exploitation of children, Peel Regional Police said in a press release today (March 30).''

''Normally, trained police dogs can track criminals, locate missing people who may be in trouble, detect explosives, search for evidence, conduct building searches and sniff out drugs. Peel police have 13 dogs on the K9 unit.

But Harley is specifically trained to find digital storage devices through scent and she heads out with the Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) to support officers during search warrants, police say.''

There are no other dogs trained to do this Canada and very few in the United States. According to an ABC news story, there were only about 100 canines certified to do this type of work in the U.S. in 2022.

The dogs are trained to smell a chemical compound found in electronic storage devices such as thumb drives and microSD cards. Because they are so small, these devices can be difficult to find. But they can store photos and videos, which could be evidence in child sexual exploitation cases.''
These are awesome to learn about. I first heard about them when they used the FBI'S dogs to find Alexis Murphey's cell phone. I think it was the FBI's dogs anyway.

I have 3 dogs now and one dog I have loves to steal phones and remotes .She does not chew them up but hides them in her blankets! She is my newest at 7 months old but my first working breed per say. I have smart dogs but this thing she does it very different than even how my beagal AND MIX operates ,they run scents down different as well.
Even training them to do the same things the same way took way different courses ,so these people training these dogs are amazing.

These are the details I’m referring to, taken from the bail application. Was he using that phone for more than a decade, or did he store it away until his next victim? LE seemed confident that because he was buying more minutes, this was the time for arrest. He had it on his possession when he was arrested. I wonder if LE has access to its telephone history during all those years. He did a lot of searches from it, but why the sudden concern for that particular phone after it being in his possession for so long. MOO
I wonder if that was his “main” burner phone he used and the others were just used to try to help throw off LE?

That’s what I thought very soon after the arrest and the details started coming out; I bet LE knew his wife and kids were getting ready to go out of town and when he purchased minutes for the burner phone, it was like he was prepping for his twisted game of “when the cats away, the mice will play”. They weren’t taking any chances.

I'm wondering as you appear to be. He had a main phone for business, family and his public, known LIFE. Then he kept a burner phone for the private part of his life. These two ran simultaneously. Phones used to communicate with victims or possible victims were true burner phones and ran briefly and were prob discarded. When and how did he know / decide that a SW would become a victim?

Same. I remember as a kid my parents took my siblings and I on a trip every summer. It was one of those nice little traditions we always looked forward to. I wonder if it was a tradition for his wife and kids to go on a trip to Iceland to see family every summer around this time? And a family trip would presumably last a little longer than if she were to go to a Comicon or something like that.

From her travel history that has been made public, I would venture to guess that it is a strong possibility they were getting ready to go to Iceland. I know LE also took the families passports when they arrested RH. I don’t know if that is standard procedure, since the wife and children were not under arrest.

We know that the man is very meticulous, calculating, and bright (as described by people who knew him). I can definitely see him doing exactly that.
As for that last question you posed, I have my own theory:

I believe his first kill would probably have been sometime after he and his first wife’s divorce, but before the birth of his daughter with his second wife in 1997. Heuermann would have been around that age when serial killers murder their first victim, and there were plenty of “stressors” in his life at that time that have also been known to “push” other known serial killers forward: divorce/breakdown of a marriage, the wedding for his second marriage, and the birth of Heuermann’s first biological child/also having to help raise or take care of his stepson who has special needs (and who was a small child at that time too). Maybe he has some sort of paraphelia that could have caused him to seek out a sex worker and maybe during the “exchange” (for lack of a better word), either the sex worker was accidentally killed, or something about him made the sex worker laugh, which in turn embarrassed and angered him enough to kill that sex worker. Either way, the murder would have cemented itself into him, just as it does with other serial killers and their first victims.
And back then in the 90’s-early 2000’s, no one batted an eye if a sex worker went missing or was murdered (except the SW’s family). Even if the murder of a SW did manage to make the news, usually the big headline was “HOOKER KILLED DURING SEX IN MOTEL”. There was no compassion for them. There was nothing that humanized them in the way we see a headline for murders that did not involve SW’s: “ASPIRING DOCTOR MURDERED IN COLD BLOOD-INTERVIEW WITH GRIEVING FIANCÉ TONIGHT AT 5pm!”. I fully believe things like this send a message to our society and especially to those with evil intent in their hearts and that message, at its very basic is this: killing is bad, but killing certain kinds of people (ie sex workers) is less bad. I think people who go after SWs do so because it’s easier to get away with murdering a SW than it would be to murder the neighbor girl down the block.

He probably called from a burner phone!

Maureen's friend (I wrote Melissa's sister above, oops) said the person who called had weird S's. Melissa's sister said the caller sounded like he was being very deliberate with his voice. To me, the only difference between the voice calling LISK documentary producers and the voice on the French journalist's you tube is the caller to the producers was more deliberate.

MOO

yeah I picked up on that too

You've certainly given this much thought and make some good points. Like you, I've wondered if perhaps the first kill was more accidental. But once he had cleaned up, disposed of the body and wasn't immediately discovered and arrested, he began enjoying remembering the event.

I don't know. He seems to have interacted with numerous SWs who were not killed. I wonder if it's something about a particular one that causes him to fantasize. I read about Neal Falls and the WVa woman. He drove 7 hours from the time of the first call until the encounter. Across those miles, he must have passed hundreds of other SWs just as eager for his money and better targets. Why this one?

When he arrived, he was ready to get straight to the killing. Just walked into her kitchen and "live or die?" I think the time to fantasize drove him to the kill frenzy - which may have led to his death as the timing was off and the victim not amply subdued. Just thinking as I type here.

So, transfer this to RH -- The 16 calls in three days with MBB.

Is that normal?

Interacting with Melissa Barthelemy for a week July 3-10 -- is that normally how the business is done? He had more time to fantasize.

The last two were more hurried - just a day between first contact and the meeting. But, I doubt that with Megan Waterman. That is the first mention of a brand new burner phone activated just that day. Who knows how many calls or how long on another phone?

Since he seems to have been seeing SWs regularly. Why kill only an occasional one? Some one has mentioned the time of year being a trigger . . . From their photos they don't really look much alike.

I just don't know.

Is the "getting to know you time" normal?

Not a lot of offical records coming out for a few years in the case probably but I am glad he is caught and ,now I am stuck in this one killer or 3 or two and a crew ,do I want to keep watching as more an more of the public shrinks back to their same everyday safe feelings because they got this guy for 3 or 4 murders of the 17 murdered woman they have? While more SW's could be at risk ?
I guess what I mean is I do not feel like anyone in LI is any safer today than they were on july 15th . IMO.

Anyone see the this ABC clip? Wow.

While the LE and media belittle ''web sleuths'' on national tv and tell us ,only they know the facts of any case AND their podcast and the narritive they share is the best for the public.
Yet seek out information or our point of veiw often ? This reporters segment is kinda making her seem like nausating self praising person. IMO

  • #5,219
IMO, his gweyeshton was, "Are you going to insist that I explain why I'm calling, or are you so happy I called for any reason that you don't need an explanation?"

gonna need a definition for that word - I googled and no results!
or is it supposed to be 'question'?

  • #5,220
I think it’s a defense move on his attorney’s side to try to gain sympathy. Make his client look like a man who was “unjustly” accused. With all of the circumstantial evidence surrounding him right now and the experiences coming out from people who know or have known him, his DA is probably trying to find anything he can to “humanize” and “soften” Rex’s image to the public before court.

yes good point
