Couldn't they stay with wife's sister or in a hotel/motel?

I'm shocked.

I wondered about that, also. But I do remember reading somewhere in MSM that AE's sister stated that this was overwhelming for their 90-something aged father, so the sister may have been staying with him trying to help him deal with the situation. And maybe AE and her two adult children moving into the father's home nearby was just too much, so they went back and forth. Just speculating.

Sad, either way, and they likely didn't have the money for both a rental car and a hotel, so chose the former so they could be mobile. Again, just speculating.

IMO he did these crimes in his car or a rundown low budget motel that he probably rented for the week. I can't see him doing this in his home.

The daughter didn’t live at the Massapequa home so I had assumed they stayed wherever she lived but I suppose not. Jmo.

I remember reading they had an apartment in Las Vegas.
I thought they might have stayed there, far from the "family house" completely ripped apart now.

Terrible situation :(

But is the condo in Las Vegas a time share, or do they own it? If they own it, then I guess the divorce process will divide up the assets and that may be an option if she still has money left after the division of property and the payment of whatever debts they have.

With regard to the management of the the fundraising account/effort, the article doesn't say that Attorney Mitev is managing the account, only that Mitev is representing the adult children of AE and RH and that he is promoting it on behalf of his clients. The account could be managed by AE's attorney, or they could be managing it jointly. It hasn't been verified in MSM, as far as I know.

Yes, she is organizing it on behalf of Attorney Robert Macedonio, the divorce lawyer for AE.

Moore said the funds would be delivered to Ellerup through the law firm representing her in her divorce . . .

Do you have a link for this? I haven't seen it reported in any MSM, but of course I could have missed it.

Perhaps that's lawyerese preparing for legal action. Yes, if you don't have a bed, make pallets in the floor.

His first job upon graduating was with the Suffolk district attorney’s office as a prosecutor under Spota’s predecessor, then-DA James Catterson. In 1995, Macedonio and fellow prosecutor Michael Brown left to start their own criminal defense firm, where Macedonio also ran a real estate practice.

Makes sense then that they would refer clients to one another based on areas of expertise if they were law partners 28 years ago, especially since Macedonio is a divorce lawyer in addition to his other areas of expertise.

My advice for them is to find a new location ASAP. Pay someone to pack up/empty the house, and never return ever. for their OWN SANITY!

My theory is he dumped the bodies to throw off jurisdictions some parts found in Nassau county some found in Suffolk county and I also think he did this to also make it harder to ID the victims. Karen's torso has never been found. To my knowledge only her skull and legs were found.
I also wonder how tides and weather plays into it. The area can become incredibly saturated in storms and we have had quite a few storms and hurricanes since then.

The district attorney also attributed the delay to the need to contact Vergata’s family members.

However, it has since emerged that Vergata’s two biological sons - Eric and Gary Doherty - apparently were not informed before Friday’s announcement.

Eric’s girlfriend Michelle Nolan told the New York Post that he only found out after the press conference when they were contacted by the woman who adopted them as young children a few years before Vergata’s death.

Ms Nolan said Eric was distraught, having believed that Vergata was only missing.

I wonder why LE didn't inform Vergata's son that they had identified her as one of the Long Island victims. At the press conference, the D.A. strongly emphasized that they had already contacted the family before they went public with the information at the press conference.

In any event, that's a lot for the adult sons to process. I hope they have a good support system. And maybe LE will meet with them now that this has been made public that they weren't contacted in person. I wonder if the fact that they were adopted was one reason LE didn't contact the sons. Just speculating.

I don't know about the sister, but I work with domestic violence survivors, and a common problem that keeps them from leaving is that the abuser has such a tight hold on the "family" pursestrings that they literally cannot afford to stay in a motel because all access to money goes through the abuser. I can't say if RH was ever physically abusive to AE or the kids, but I think we can deduce from his extreme hatred of women that he would have been abusive in other ways, and from the state of the dilapidated house and the family using food stamps versus the amount of money he spent on SW, travel, Manhattan office rent, etc. we can conjecture that some of that abuse was financial. I would not be the least bit surprised if AE could not even afford a cheap motel. I've seen it dozens of times.
