They are lucky to be alive! If they had only known!
Most probably are very aware now. They met the guy who most likely had bad vibes about him.

How was this creep ever at home or involved as a husband/father?!!! It doesn't make sense that he was an involved family man as indicated previously (by his lawyer I believe). 100s of SWs between 2020-2023? All that time of planning, fantasizing, researching, meeting, engaging in the acts that he devoted to his addiction. Unbelievable really! MOO.
Def a significant "look" to the branding "HM" on the belt. I wonder if they can find these brandings on any of his other articles of clothing that they might review while filing through his home address. Maybe this was not the only branding, IMO likely that branding is somewhere else in his home... Not that a witness wouldn't be helpful! But who knows the embellishments or rewording a witness could do unknowingly or knowingly.@149Zone7
I have said the belt that was discovered wrapped around victim, Maureen Brainard-Barnes now officially connects Rex Heuermann. There’s zero chance in my opinion the killers family would not recognize this belt. In my opinion Rex’s brother at a minimum had knowledge of this belt.

I wonder if he ever took these "late nights" elsewhere. There had to be some kind of admissible front HM would tell his wife. Maybe meetings in other states? Conventions or openings he may attend for his career? Most likely "worked late" every night.

Having his victims in his OWN home that he shares with his wife is truly heartbreaking to hear.
If the neighbors don't have stories then their security systems surely do. We are talking a high class family with high accessibility to education, healthcare, and clearly income. Paying to keep quiet with your family would be the last option IMO esp considering the children. I mean that would be QUITE the family secret to be hushed by monetary funds but I have been wrong before...Yeah, I agree. Is his basement soundproof I have a hard time imagining his wife, his teenage step-son, and daughter NOt ever HEARINg or SEEING anyone coming and going at weird hours? I'm sure the neighbors have stories.
Or "hobbies" down in the basement. Most likely "worked late" every night.
According to Suffolk police, Heuermann's basement wasn't sound proof.Yeah, I agree. Is his basement soundproof I have a hard time imagining his wife, his teenage step-son, and daughter NOt ever HEARINg or SEEING anyone coming and going at weird hours? I'm sure the neighbors have stories.
There were earlier reports about a soundproof room being found on Heuermann's property, too, but authorities disputed that claim this week.
"I believe that the soundproof room and the vault, that message got misconstrued, but there is a vault. There is no soundproof room," Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison said, Fox News reports.

But I agree with you, even the largest basement with the best soundproof quality would still raise concerns with neighbors/family members with coming and going. I mean I know a basement isn't always the hangout destination but to have at least four identified victims without a peep to family living IN THE SAME HOME makes my mind wander. Did they ever mention HM's pets if they had any? Hard to see a dog or puppy not barking upon entrance into the home with new visitors.
Thank you for this update, seems even more of a stretch that everything went unnoticed/unheard with a regular basement.According to Suffolk police, Heuermann's basement wasn't sound proof.

If anybody is capable of accessing many different homes while escorted it would either be a real estate agent or perhaps an architect.
He doesnt need his home in order to torture people.
And the there are hotels.
There is an outside entrance to the basement. I recall seeing a cellar door in the exterior photos from the police search.Thank you for this update, seems even more of a stretch that everything went unnoticed/unheard with a regular basement.
Brainard-Barnes was last seen on July 9, 2007, in New York City after checking out from a Super 8 Motel. She was found bound with three leather belts, one of which was used to tie her ankles. This source mentions a buckle or fastener that's gold.
I don't recall that being in evidence. I remember when the SCPD under Hart made this announcement and attempted not to reveal who was bound in this belt, it was always frustrating and weird that we could not see the buckle. It seemed to me at the time, the buckle would be more memorable or recognizable.
There was a lot of speculation that it was a woman's belt, a police uniform type belt, blah blah blah, which could have been cleared up with the buckle, more information about the length, etc.
As I recall, it was inadvertently released that this belt was associated with Maureen because the website posted the photo without removing its file name, which had her name in it. So it became clear it was found on/near her. And some cryptic note with the file like, "no glove."
I think the police only said the killer is believed to have handled the belt; I don't recall knowing she was tied with it then.
i wonder if we will see the buckle soon, and if it makes it seem more likely that someone must have been able to ID the belt?
