His family said in a post on Instagram on Friday night: "Our hearts are broken.

"A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose."

The statement added: "A humanitarian, an Olympian, and two time heavyweight champion of the world, He was deeply respected - a force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name - for his family."

Foreman was born in Marshall, Texas, on 10 January 1949, and raised along with six siblings by a single mother in the segregated American South.

He dropped out of school and turned to street robberies before eventually finding his outlet in the ring.

Early life

[edit]
George Foreman was born in Marshall, Texas. He grew up in the Fifth Ward community of Houston, Texas, with six siblings
Although he was raised by J. D. Foreman, whom his mother had married when George was a small child, his biological father was Leroy Moorehead. By his own admission in his autobiography, George was a troubled youth. He dropped out of school at the age of 15 and spent time as a mugger. At age 16, Foreman had a change of heart and convinced his mother to sign him up for Job Corps after seeing an ad for the Corps on TV. As part of Job Corps, Foreman earned his GED and trained to become a carpenter and bricklayer
After moving to Pleasanton, California, with the help of a supervisor, he began to train. Foreman was interested in football and idolized Jim Brown, but gave it up for boxing.'

'Ali shocked Foreman, winning by 8th round TKO.'

Years later, the men would become very close. When Ali died in 2016, George told us ... "I lost my best friend."

In 1977, Foreman retired and became an ordained minister shortly after hanging up his gloves. George dedicated his life to God ... and preached at a Houston area church.

George Foreman: “I was out of boxing for 10 years, and the only picture that I saved was Muhammad Ali knocking me down. There I was going down from that punch, I kept that and looked at it all the time, mainly because I realised what a big moment it was for sports and for boxing, and it kept me humbled. I never forgot that, and it's made me a far better person than if it had been me knocking him down.”

"George Foreman suffered only his second professional defeat when he lost to Jimmy Young in a boxing match in Puerto Rico in 1977. In his locker room after the match, George had a deeply religious experience that changed his life forever. Even though George was a top contender to regain the heavyweight title, he retired from boxing, at the age of 28, to serve the Lord. George became an ordained minister and has been preaching at The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ since 1980."

"George Foreman celebrated the “best time of my life” just months before his death as he reminisced on his 1974 “Rumble in the Jungle” epic against Muhammad Ali.

The legendary boxer-turned-entrepreneur memorialized the 50th anniversary of the famous Africa bout by chowing down a slice of cake with a huge grin.

“Can you believe 50 years ago, the “Rumble in the Jungle,” fighting Muhammad Ali. Looking back at the best time of my life—celebrate with me with a slice of cake, as I relive the ‘Rope-a-Dope,'” Foreman wrote on Instagram in one of his last social media posts.

I always smiled when seeing or listening to George.
He had that way about him.
It was reported that GF wan't interested in being a spokesperson for a grill until his wife Mary made him try it and the rest is history.
She sounds like an incredible woman/force in George's life and George a very smart man to have recognized that.

"So, how profitable were these grills? Very. According to Spectrum Brands, the grill's parent company, more than 100 million George Foreman grills have been sold to date, looking at sales worldwide. According to reports, Foreman signed over naming rights for the grill in perpetuity in 1999, for an impressive $137 million.

Even before his death, the George Foreman Grill was a bestseller on Amazon, even to this date. It's safe to believe the grill will sell even more units in the coming weeks, as people mourn the death of Foreman."

"During the mid-1970s. my brother Roy had received a percentage of my boxing purses in exchange for taking care of my business affairs. By the time I retired in 1977, both he and my brother Sonny, who also worked for me, had earned a fair amount of money - but in the early 1980s, both were broke. In Roy's case, the reversal of fortune was due to poor investments. When I returned with my kids from my St. Lucia adventure in 1983, he and his wife had separated, and he was living at my mother's. Mom told me that he was volunteering his time teaching kids how to box at a church gym. Roy hadn't really boxed himself, but from hanging around me all those years he knew enough about boxing to be an effective teacher.

I stopped by one day to see him and offer encouragement. The gym was a decrepit, flimsy place that the preacher had agreed to let Roy use on the condition that if he ever collected dues or fees from the kids or their parents, he would turn the money over to the church. When I got there, he was getting set to work with some of the kids in the ring. A few of the mothers were busy signing up their boys for the program. One young mother must have recognized me and thought that George Foreman, former champ, might really be able to help her son stay out of trouble; at least, that's what I saw on her face. But I wanted no part. I was a preacher now. My congregation couldn't think that I had any connection to boxing again. My opinion was that if she really wanted to keep her son out of trouble, she'd have sent him to church services instead.

About two months later, I ran into Roy somewhere. For some reason, I happened"
