Hug triggers officer's gun, kills woman at party for her birthday

I heard a report on WWJ radio (Detroit) this morning while I was in my car but cannot find anything about it on the website. I found this article on the FreePress website as media confirmation that Adaisha's family has hired an attorney. I'm not surprised by this after the comments that Adaisha's mother has made in various local media interviews, but I think that the family should tread carefully and be careful about what they wish for because the investigation might yield unfavorable information about Ms. Miller. :moo:

Thanks for the link! From the article also:

Yolanda McNair, Miller’s mom, said she heard from witnesses that her daughter and Parrish were side-by-side and her daughter put her arm around Parrish as she got a birthday hug from him when the gun went off. She said she hired Thurswell, but didn’t want to discuss it further.

“I needed somebody to get me the truth,” McNair said.

AND

Wayne County Medical Examiner Carl Schmidt said earlier this week that his office can't tell the position Miller was in when she was shot but said the police version could have happened. Schmidt said the gun's muzzle was pointed downward in such a way that the bullet went into Miller's chest and came out of her back at a lower point.

I could better understand this happening if he was wearing a shoulder holster, but with it on the waist band, it just makes me scratch my head. I wonder if she fell down after tugging at his waist and that was when the gun went off?

DETROIT -
Funeral services for the 24-year-old woman who was killed when an off-duty Detroit police officer's gun went off will be held Saturday.

According to police sources, 24-year-old Adaisha Miller positioned herself behind the officer at a fish fry and was dancing - either bending over or on her knees reaching for the officer's belt when the gun went off. Adaisha's mother Yolanda Mcnair isn't buying any of it...

Ms. Miller was reportedly drunk, so, yes, she might have fallen down.
