Raj Kirubananthan, 32, of Markham, is facing a number of charges following a human trafficking investigation by Toronto police. Investigators allege Kirubananthan sex trafficked a woman between January 2020 and July 2023 years and held her in a Montreal hotel room for three months. (Toronto Police Service)

''Police said the suspect also transported the victim outside the province into Quebec, where he “forced” her to work as an escort “while holding her in a hotel room for three months.”

“All of the money earned by the victim was surrendered to the accused,” police said in a news release.

''During this time, police said the suspect withheld the victim’s ID and banking cards while using physical force and supplying drugs to “exercise control over the victim.”
Police believe there may be more victims and released an image of Kirubananthan on Tuesday.''
''Investigators are asking anyone with information about the investigation to contact them at 416-808-4838 or [email protected], or Crime Stoppers anonymously.''

It is too bad that there are not courses for high school and college students on the signs of human trafficking, the dangers of it, what to look for, etc. Also for communities in general such as for parents, retired persons, condominium residents, and other groups. Hotel and airline employees get these courses/tutorials/webinars.

Should we, the public, be educated in the apps that the predators use to produce CSAM? Or find kids? The infamous KIK i was aware of since one of the cases discussed here, but i could never explain to parents nor understand myself how on earth the producers would use cryptocurrency to pay the children in pot or other drugs? I understand that the organizations monitoring it may not be willing to share all details with the public, but the link between the teenagers being constantly high, being featured in CSAM and yet never seeing the "producers" is scary! What we see on the exit line are kids who are hooked on drugs, with PTSD and parents who have no idea what has happened. Is there any way to spread the knowledge sooner?

The trouble is, neither kids, nor young adults are fully aware of the danger. Take Seeking Arrangements, currently Seeking. They were actively targeting young college students, asking to register under college emails! And now we have the case of Mackenzie Lueck, murdered by a man she met there. And how many others, who simply disappeared? Yet, there are 46 mln users! Young people think differently. They may feel empowered and not realize the true danger of it. I can't blame them, in their age I worked two legal jobs, but I know that instant gratification, independence and having money was very important. One has to find better ways of targeting them. I wish someone thinks of the way to deliver the right message.

Unfortunately the same reason most parents get children phones to begin with is the same way the monsters track the kids, most parents say they bought their child a phone for connivence, but that is the same reason the monsters are targeting our children. These monsters create hundreds of fake profiles to target children, then to lure them and then exploit them. Approximately 38% of predators used SnapChat to initiate face-to-face meetings, and most victims admit to meeting the trafficker at least once in person. This is the best way to learn about the tactics these predators use, by doing research and by having these discussions, by asking these questions, and by spreading the information to everyone you can. Educating yourself is never a bad thing to do, there are no specific way I am aware of to track the monsters like they track our children without serious hacking capabilities. But bringing awareness, it starts with a word, then it becomes an action, when it becomes an action then it can become a story. Once we all start telling our story people will start to listen, and when they do, that's called a movement. This subject is definitely one that needs to gain momentum quickly if we want to save the kids from these evil monsters. Thank you for asking this question, this is the hard part, the even more difficult part is keeping the kids safe from these apps that let predators impersonate people they know, these monsters can hack the biometrics of a phone and use the data to clone a person's voice. Imagine your child getting a call from a cousin or aunt, a friend from soccer camp telling them about a group meeting's time and place, your child shows up for the meeting that was never scheduled. Who is there? One of these evil monsters who has been watching your child, stalking them on social media, someone who has done the research on what your child likes and wants. At the fake meeting the monster acts a certain way towards your child and the hook is set, your child thinks it's sweet the fake person went out of their way to set up such an elaborate meeting. Parents of young children these days have their work cut out for them, one fight that leaves a child grounded, hating us parents, that's when these vultures swoop in and snatch our babies. A child who isn't fortunate enough to have both parents that are present in their lives, parents who monitor social media, the ones who are old fashioned and have solid rules are the ones who don't have a chance. The only way to really keep them safe is by not letting them have a phone at such an early age, imagine trying to raise a child that isn't allowed to have a phone? I just can't see how that would play out, trying to keep a phone from a child when every other person in the world has one? Even then that still doesn't ensure they will be safe with these monsters living next door, working at the school as teachers, clerks, janitors, police and the list goes on and on! I hope this helps, I am sorry I don't know of a way to nail these monsters down specifically but that is why this is so important, by having these Q&A's we can start talking and start asking and start answering the hard questions that get asked. The Polaris Project is a great source of information on the latest news on human trafficking if you haven't checked the site.

Sincerely,
LaRena

There should be education centered around the risk of human trafficking, it should be right up there with the stranger danger lessons, or how to tie your shoes lessons, or even the ABC"s lesson. Until this happens this problem will continue to grow and keep growing until we all stand united as links of a chain to create a barrier between the evil in the world and our children. We can create a chain link that is strong and will reach the coasts both ways, if we continue doing this, having these conversations and asking questions and opening our eyes to the evil surrounding us.
